I don't think any modifications once it leaves the factory are considered, but I'm open to correction.

'flexible fuel vehicle' means a vehicle that derives its motive power from an internal combustion engine that is capable of using a blend of ethanol and petrol, where such blend contains a minimum of 85 per cent ethanol - As per revenue site

Quick question - what type of car are you looking into and is it a straight veg oil you are intending on?

I have an 84 merc 240d. Still on uk plate.Thinking about a 2 tank straight veg conversion atm.

Also considering a filtration system to filter waste veg oil.

Road Tax and vrt a killer on 2.4 litre engine.

I love the car though and would bite the bullet on taxes if fuel was free.

Car would be pretty much carbon neutral and any sensible taxation system should allow for this imo.(I know biofuels are not the long term answer but if the veg oil is there and being dumped anyway...)

Had a quick look there, VRT is 860 euro. Tax per year is a crippler although at 935:eek:

I suppose in 6 years you can claim as classic car and pay shag all.

Just a heads up on using svo in Ireland, because of the cold here, the oil can get very thick in the fuel lines/engine and can cause sever damage to injectors and fuel pump. I suppose if you are using heat exchangers in the conversion, you might get away with it.

In the process of buying a house in the country side myself. Whenin, im going to build a small bio diesel production set up. I know where to get endless supplies of old veg oil. Its very straight forward to make and only requires minor adjustments to the car.

    because of the cold here

Car will be mainly summer use. Need to keep it nice and shiny til its 30.:)

Looked into various things and I think svo is the one for me.

    Cheers for replys

What are good cars for running on veg oil?
Dad has a hyundai tuscon and would have regular access to large amounts of waste chip/veg oil.
I'm sure i saw some kind of device or small processing plant on tv once 5th gear maybe that a person could buy to convert whatever oil they had to biodiesel suitable for any car. Anyone else ever seen this and can remember what it's called and where to buy one?

Theres also a million and 1 places online where you can learn to build a bioD production plant at home from old tanks and pipes for feck all money.
