    hi all, i have 2 young springer pups which i am training at the mo. at what age should it be okay to start them hunting properly?

    You could work them at a year old but probably won't get the best out of them until they reach two.

    A lot of dog trainers will tell you not to let a dog near a ditch till they are at least a year old. Personally I had mine as soon as they could jump into a divot of grass and have a sniff around out. I brought them where i knew there would be rabbits lying out or extremely light cover where you would pop a bird or 2 out. The main thing to remember is that a pup is still very soft and will feel it if you expect it to go through cover that an older or seasoned dog will burst through. start off light, get the basics of stop and stay sorted and as they get older bring them out with seasoned dogs, they will follow and learn off them.
