    Hi Guys,

Have any of you tried the Chinese 12,000 stones from ebay?

open_razor in Poland has some available for a ridiculous price when compared to BBW and Cots.

Also, for general maintenance on a nick and ding free edge is there any merit - apart from speed - to having a coarser hone?

    Ta,
    SR

That's a finishing hone and it's meant to be slow as hell (Apparently much slower than the Belgians or Arkansas. Now I have a pair of Belgians and they're pretty damn slow). I'd say it'd be ok for removing scratch patterns from something like 6-8000 but I'd say it'd break your heart if you planned on doing any sort of cutting with it.

I'd only use the coarser ones for setting an edge (~1200-4000). I'd say you wouldn't need anything that coarse for maintenance, just a few swipes on a barber hone or something 8000+

Very slow cutter but leaves a nice polish for stropping! :D
