ok basically my dad bought a few things off a seller on ebay who had crazy prices set for postage and offered collection. After winning, an to be fair looking at it again, he found out the wording meant that the type of postage was for collection and that's what the charge applied for.
Now the items cost about €10 but the postage drives it to about €80 and he doesn't want them at that price. Is he allowed ask the buyer to cancel the transaction and if he refused is there any options regarding ebay investigating the sale for confusing wording?
If he refuses to pay the price would it likely see his account closed with ebay?

    Thanks for any help.

I'm the complete opposite; I rather buy it cheaper then pay Ebay but each to their own.

Same here, always look at the total price, and ignore whether they charge more for delivery than the item, as long as the whole price is right.

As for the OP, not a lot can be done, though sellers can't leave negative feedback for buyers any more, so that won't effect him. The seller can report a non paying bidder, get enough of these and eBay will suspend the account.

He can also report the seller for avoiding eBay fees by artificially increasing the delivery, and 70euro for collection is quite obviously artificial. eBay may remove the auction, in which case he wouldn't have to pay.

Best to try to get transaction cancelled first but if not:

If this is first time not paying, the worst you can get is a Non paying bidder strike. A couple more would be a suspension from you ebay account. Sellers can no longer leave negative feedback.

If ebay get involved you can always use the "my 10 year old bought the thing by mistake" or "my account has been hacked".

Cheers for ya help guys. I'd never seen this method before and consider myself very internet savvy. I get the system now. I emailed the seller for my father and hopefully it'll end there. If not he'll just have to take the strike, not the end of the world.
