Court fine

I received a District Court fine about 2 1/2 months ago and am having great difficulty in paying it.

I can afford to pay the fine, but have lost my case number documentation. I have rang the courthouse several times but they told me that they either can't help me without the case number, or "we are up to our eyeballs today, can you call back tomorrow"!

One member of staff was particularly rude and unhelpful.

I want to pay it but they are not making this possible, does anyone know if there is a central fines department somewhere that I could ring? I am extremely worried that if I don't pay it on time I will get into more trouble.

    Thanks

You may be able to get a summons number from the prosecuting guard. That will help the court office trace the details. If the fine is not paid on time the guards will apply for a warrant for your arrest so it is best to make them aware of the problem now.

Thanks, that sounds like a good plan.

In time a PENAL warrant will be issued. This does not instruct the member to arrest immediately but to recover the fine and if it is not paid within the specified time, then lodge the accused in a set prison for a set number of days (Day per 100euro normally, but rough guide)

If contacting the Garda doesnt work then call into the District court office and ask at the counter....and wait for them to give you the details.
