MOD, didn't know if this was for here or 'Work & Jobs' so please move if you want!

I've been offered a job for 12 hours a week, it comes to roughly 104quid a week. Someone told me I can get some money from the dole on top of this to make up the money, is this true? If I can't then the job just wouldn't be worthwhile!

do a quick search of here, but you can sign on depending on the amount of days you work per week, your employer will stamp a docket to say which ones you've worked and not, and the you submit this weekly.

If you work 3 or less days per week, you may be entitled to dole for the other days. if you work a few hours a day for 4 or 5 days you get nothing so best to ask your employer if you can do the hours in 3 or less days a week.

What they said if you work the 12 hours over 3 days in a dole week {Thursday to Wednesday} you can sign on for the other 3 days but if the 12 hours are not in a dole week or are working over 4 days you cannot claim anything if this is the casee like the op said "then the job just wouldn't be worthwhile! "

    Sorry to hijack this thread!
I just had this issue in the dole office today! Ive being offered swimming lessons over the Summer & it would be Mon-Fri for 1 1/2 hours a week! Its pure insanity that I if I do this I have to come off the dole. Is there anyway around this at all? It'll lead to more hours in September so its worthwhile in that sense, not being able to pay bills in the mean time is where the plan snags. Any advice on this? I thought they want people to work in this country?? Sorry I'm still bulling over this!

there is no way around this , i was in the same boat , offered partime work for ikea , even over the 3 days and claiming the labour the other 2 i would be up 30 euro and that is without my fuel expenses to ballymun and back - we are just being screwed every way . if i chose to work the 5 days , 4 hrs aday i would not be entitled to any labour . i would be working for less then the labour , unbelievable .

anymore advice would be welcome on this

Basically, the system is the way it is.

If you take a job that initially pays less than the dole but do well in it, you may get more hours and start making more money. There's also the personal satisfaction that working brings, that going to the post office weekly doesn't. You interact with new people as well.

All in all, there are benefits to working beyond the money, if you can manage to survive on what money there is.

you could apply for other benefits....medical card, rent allowance, etc.

Ya its crazy that if you work part-time you can't get top up to the amount of the dole but I guess the way they see it is you are not available for full time work so not a job seeker.

If one of the days you work is Sunday, you can work for 4 days and still get paid Jobseekers for three day.
