    Hi guys,

I believe this is the right forum for the thread.

I recently installed a camera system in a building in conjunction with a DVR System recording it to a hard drive, all well and good. Now, the system itself has the option to be access remotely via a web interface or software. I'm just wondering what kind of price I would expect to pay to get this setup, whats needed is:

    - Remote access configured and setup
    - 3 users setup with unique passwords (not visable to the installer)
    - Configured to work with NTL connection, always on
    - Possibility of service calls any time during the week.

    Cheers!

I have a similar setup in my home.

    You have two options.

First, you can choose to pay for a static IP address. It doesn't matter which provider you go through, but this does cost a bit more per month than normal dsl/broadband since you will not be sharing the connection.

Second option is to get a router that supports dynamic DNS routing and setup and account with one of the dynamic DNS companies (like DynDNS). They charge like 5-10 euro a year and you then can use a dynamic IP address to access the system remotely.

Per your other requirements - i.e. 3 user accounts, service calls - unless your system has multiple users as an option, then your going to either have to have that built into your router or buy a PC and set it up in-line to work as a firewall to block access.

Service calls are usually charged by the hour (depending on who you go with that is usually 60-90 euro an hour), but your going to need a nice router as listed above before you can get what you need (cost between 120-250 euro) and the monthly line charge will be around 100-200 a month dpending on where you are located if you get a static address. Also note you may need a PC per your 3 user request depending again on the router you buy, so that might be an extra 300-400 euro.

most broadband routers can be configured to allow access from the internet. If your camera is connected to the router then you should be able to connect to it. In most cases the camera's software consists of a simple web server which can allow you control the camera remotely. The IP address of your router is assigned by the service provider. While this is subject to change, it does not change very often. The router can assign an IP address to to the camera and requests coming to the router from the internet can be routed to the camera. The web server on the camera may have some security features such as username and password. If you already have a router, a broadband connection and a means to connect the camera cat5 (RJ11) or wi-fi then there are no cost implications.
