Suppose it all depends on what the offer was, was it conditional on your getting a 2.1? Did they mention anything about grades?

NO as far as I can remember they didnt mention anything but I didnt ask coz I assumed I'd at least get a 2.1. People have just been freaking me out saying that they had heard people not getting taken on now for getting 2.2's

Sometimes the condition you'll see is "contract is offered on the basis that expected result is attained". Think back to your original application form, there was probably an expected result box, what did you fill in?? Most people do 1.1 or 2.1. Check your contract and see what it says.

Hopefully it won't effect your chances!

yeah check your contractt and give HR a call first thing 2mo. See what they say. If the contract say 2.1 tho, you might be out of luck but def contact them first after reading the contract yourself

Also, have you viewed your scripts? do all the points add up? get in touch with college and see if there is anything you can do on that front

hang in there though, they do let people in with 2.2s so there might be some light at the end of the tunnel, ill keep me fingers crossed for ya!

I got a 2.2 in my degree and I was taken on. Granted they never specified what my grade had to be at anytime during the recruitment process.

It usually depends what college you were at as well. they will probably take a 2.2 honours from a university but would look for 2.1 from an IT

It depends on the big 4. I have a contract with one of them and it clearly states you need a 2.1. If its not in your contract then they cant do anything.

I'm in the discretionary range for a 2:1 but they didn't give it to me. So gutted. Meant to be starting with EY but not sure what I'm going to do now. Got in contact with the college about it so all I can do now is wait...

You got a 2:1 and they refused you? Very harsh, sorry to hear that:(

My contract said my offer was conditional on me getting an honors degree which in my college included a 2:2 so you could be fine, but Im sure it depends on the individual firm.

My advice is just play it cool and try not to worry too much at this stage (I know easier said than done:rolleyes:).

I'm my own worst enemy, I woulda gotten it no bother after the first term of this year, but my latest results dragged me into the discretionary range and my session QCA/GPA was a 2:2...sent an email asking the student academic admin. to reconsider and told em I've a training contract secured. We were told a 2:1 is required and I put down that I was expecting a 2:1...I know I didn't miss it by much but if they lookin to get rid of a few grads I'm a prime target! O what a fun week I'm going to have!

    Hey Clearya,

Thats awful not getting your 2.1, did you try emailing all your lecturers, fyp supervisor and your academic supervisor, you never know there might be the chance of one of them pulling you up a grade.
Tom Kennedy is on the grading committee, so if you got a decent grade in his he might be able to help you out (remember, he can only meause you on your inputs and outputs, yada yada yada...).

Also try Jim Donoghue from Strat Management, he seemed really decent and might be able to have another look at your paper and tell you if theres any point in having it re-checked!

I'm on the case! lol I emailed Tom alright from a grading committee perspective asking him if there anything that can be done considering that I have a job secured. If 4 of my results had been 1 grade higher I would have gotten my 2:1...Fergal O'Brien for fiance was very nice and said if I submit a recheck he'll look over it. if they seriously turn me down after me telling them I've got a contract I'll lose my faith in humanity :p..I know it's my fault but my god has it given me a kick up the backside study-wise, deffo not gonna take the professional exams for granted!

Hopefully they can try and sort something out for you..
The way I see it is you may aswell beg as many of them as you can, its not as if you have to see any of them ever again so you may aswell act as desperate as you can!

Rhiannacork, I wouldnt panic just yet. I know my contract didnt say anything about having to get a 2.1 even though other people in the same Big 4 had it outlined in their contract.
I would just ring the HR office and plead your case, you've got nothing to lose now anyways!
Also, if you were that surprised at not getting a 2.1 a re-check on your grades may be the way to go...

Well begging and pleading is one thing I don't mind doing! If I do have to get onto the EY HR I'll be throwing everything but the kitchen sink at them, I really enjoyed the interview and am hoping that they'll take me as a person into account because it was a lot more informal than other interviews I was at.

I've heard of a guy in my year in college a few years ago (dont know him, but my mate does and told me this) who had the great misfortune of UCD losing his Strategy exam script, and so giving him a class average of 55 or 56. The subject was double weighted and so pushed him down from a 2.1 to a 2.2 and well he wasnt offered his job with a big 4 firm as a result. SICK!!

Oh my god that's awful, it's one thing to know it's your fault but for the college to be at fault...well that's a whole other matter. I've emailed my company this evening and I guess I'll know tomorrow one way or another. The one good thing is that if I'm let go I'll look for a more well rounded accounting/finance job, I'm going to keep telling myself that whatever happens is meant to be!

Absolutely. If things dont work out then try something else. I could think of a million jobs better than auditing!

Did that actually happen or is it urban legend?? Would be absolutely shocking if it did, and almost grounds for legal action!!

Well thats what my mate told me, and its not the type of thing he would make up nor is he the type of person to make random stuff up like that.

Someone less honest could have told him tho...

I was in the same situation last year with PwC. I really thought id get 2.1 as my grades had been good all through college with minimum amount of work. I really slacked off in final year though cause I didn't like alot of the theory subjects and there wasn't enough practical....oh and im a lazy git haha.

I was gutted for a few months and couldn't find job but I decided to sit the CPA exams and found job in local practice that i love. My bosses are really nice and I get loads of different stuff to do. I was supposed to do auditing with PwC even though I would have preferred tax - now I get to do both.
It may seem like its the worst thing if you don't get the big4 job but there are other options - masters, another ACA firm, CPA/ACCA exams with or without employer, travel for a year.....if EY are thinking of not keeping you on then you could think bout doing masters and ask them if results are good from that will they take you on next year. AT least you'd have more exemtions from exams as well then
