NTL RF Out through MMDS, the lowdown?

    Hi,
Having read through the discussions on NTL RF out on the digital box I wanted to clarify something.

When I use the RF out (of the digital box) straight to the TV I manage to get four channels as follows:

    1 T4
    2 Sky News
    3 ???
    4 TV3

...and no more. My TV is a fairly new Samsung so I presume this is not a band issue? Basically I would like to able have a few more channels avail so I can record one and watch another.

    Any help appreciated,
    Steve

The RF out for NTL STBs is only analogue pass-through, but you should still be able to pick up the 15 or so analogue stations through it. Make sure your TV has a VHF tuner however, because you'll need it to pick up the analogue stations (some TVs built for the UK market don't have VHF tuners, because they don't use it for analogue terrestrial there).

As NTL MMDS has no analogue you shouldn't be getting any channels.

Thanks for replies. I think the reason why I am getting something is because its the older box? Anyhow, will try and old VCR player to get a full band search.

More likley, you get Sky Ness cause that's that the stb was tuned to and the others cause it with kind of like a rabbit ears and picks up the local terrestial TV...

I would imagine your tv is a uk model and doesnt have the full band search. You will need a vcr to get it through. But if your on MMDS you wont have any basic channels

Unless there is a Chorus MMDS TX nearby?

It's all UPC now. But the ex NTL has NO analogue to tune on any VCR or TV.

OP, if your TV has a DVB-C tuner it is probably picking up the stations which are not encrypted. Essentially if you take you card out of the UPC STB, and nagivate to these channels you might find you can watch them without the card inserted!

MMDS has no analogue tranmissions - all channels you are receiving are through 'Digital' and I think it's MPEG2 anyway (but not too sure) which all DVB-T and DVB-C can decode without encryptions.

It is against UPC's T&C's to use other equipment other than their STB to view channels.

Ex Ntl mmds has no analogue. 4 or 5 analogue channels are left over via ex Chorus mmds.
If the subscriber box is a sagem box its ex Chorus mmds.
