    Ahoyhoy.

Im just looking for a little insight into Physiology. Has anybody here chosen it in their final years? If so what did you think of it?
What kind of topics are covered? Are there any placements/experience days or anything?

Also just on a side note. What is covered in the Junior Freshman year of Science, or more specifically, Biology 101?

Many thanks to anyone who replies.:D

Hey, I've just finished JF science so I don't know much about physiology but I just thought I'd tell you a bit about Biology 101. The modules in it are called Molecular and Cellular Basis of Life, Genetics, Biology of Microorganisms and Developmental Biology. I think there's 5 one hour lectures for Biology per week and a 3 hour lab which will just be experiments dealing with stuff you will be learning in the lectures. Do you not want to do Biology 102? I found it much more interesting but that could just be me! The Molecular and Cellular Basis of Life is just all about the animal cell and proteins and stuff. Genetics was just like Leaving Cert genetics. Biology of Microorganisms is all about bacteria and protozoa and stuff, I liked it. Developmental is ok, it's how a single cell develops into a multicellular organism, there's alot of learning in it. Hope I helped a bit!

Thank you! V. Helpfull. Yeah, sorry I meant like Biology in general.

How did you find JF? What are the hours like in total? What kind of things have you done in labs etc.?

Sorry for the grilling, just eager to know!!
    Thanks again!:D

I loved JF! I was worried that it wasn't for me at the start but now there's nothing else I'd rather do. You should do a search through the threads for science, loads of people have asked questions about science over the years, I found out loads this way before I started.
The hours are long but you get used to it, you probably won't go to everything anyway but I think for me it was 10-5 or 6 on Monday and Tuesday and then labs start on Wednesday to Friday so depending on what hours your labs are on you could get a half day or two and some people even managed to get their labs on Wed and Thurs so they had Friday off! There's no lectures on Fridays. There's alot of work to do, especially towards the end of the year but it's much easier than school, you won't have to come home from college and do homework every night.
Labs are interesting enough. You'll have a lab partner so it's a good way of making friends. They're 3 hours but they won't all take 3 hours and when you're finished you can leave. We've dissected a worm and a prawn! We created a key about bumblebees which was really annoying! You'll get this big folder when you start so you'll be able to see what the experiments are then. You record all your results in this and hand it up at the end of the year. Biology 102 starts in January and it's all about plants, animals and ecology. If you wanna know anythin else just ask, I've noticed there's a few more science people on this so they might add in what I forgot!
