Not enough information to go on here.
Are these specimen trees. Are they bare root, or were they grown in transport bags?
20 foot is very big for transplants- what sort of treatments have these had?
In the absence of proper treatment of the trees, it is highly unlikely that you will be able to transport and transplant these from one location to another- this is very species dependent though.

Well he said trees, as opposed to timber or wood- perhaps I took him up wrong? OP- care to clarify?

    Hi,

Nope definitely not fire wood, they are trees, mixed variety, they were planted as part of one of Coillte schemes, so just checking on our options for selling them, also in the process of contacting Coillte to see what we can and cannot do, the trees are about 7 to 8 years old.

What it really comes down to- did the plantation of the trees receive any grant aid- or not. If it received grant aid- you signed an irrevocable land change usage- and the land is considered forestry land forever after. If on the other hand- the planting was not grant aided- you can do as you choose- with the proviso that you must comply with any environmental or planning laws as they pertain to forestry.

I'm curious- why are you looking at these at this stage- they wouldn't even be due an update to their management plan for another couple of years yet?

Well it comes down to money, the trees are on a golf course and basically I am looking to see where we have an asset where there is possible revenue stream.

I will need to dig out the contracts and see what agrements are in place. If I can find a contract.

Unless you have sizeable areas afforested- its unlikely that you will be able to generate an economic return by managing your 'plantation'. It sounds like a few copses of trees on a golf course- please correct me if I'm wrong. In a case like this- small scale removal of smaller specimens as 'mature specimens' may be your only opportunity to raise funds (and even that is limited).

Is the golf course operational- or what sort of machinery access do you have? Generally forestry or retrieval machinery is not the sort of equipment you'd want anywhere near a golf course......?
