I heard that this year may be the last year for free fees.
Has anyone else heard anything about this?

I was my class rep last year (3rd year of a 4 year course)

I attended one of the meetings early in the year (maybe Oct) as you do and the head of the entire institution told us that they were planning on almost doubling the Student Services Fee this year (as they did) and in the next couple of years there will be full fees. They had been pretty blatent about this behind closed doors before this recession business but will use the current economic climate as an excuse to convince people they have to do it. He advised us to get our Masters and whatever while we still can.

It's terrible! People lose their jobs, then they need €000s to get back to education? It's a Catch 22 for everyone

    OMG, that's terrible.
    Are free fees gone now?

I want to apply as a mature student in 2010, do you know if the free fees will definitely be gone then?

It really is a catch 22.

I'm not sure but i guess full fees will be back!

When i started it was free fees but you had to pay a €700 "Student Services Fee"

Last year they stopped calling it Student Services Fee coz nobody believed that, so it was a €800 "Registration Fee"

They've upped it to €1500 this year, and i have no idea where i'm going to get it!

I was on TCD.ie & they have a section for mature students etc.
It says that Free Fees is there & that the Student Service Fee is still payable & that you can apply to your local authority for a Higher Education Grant.
The Grant that Meath offer is roughly 1,370 euro.
It covers most of it I suppose.
    Can you apply for that?

I am going to apply in January for Sept 2010.
I am going to try & save every penny between now & then just in case I need it.

Well the grant is worth 1,370 but with the grant your Student Services fee will also be paid.

I got a grant in 1st year, got turned down for 2nd year.

Gonna have to apply again this year anyway

You don't deserve free fees when you use the word "coz". Its "B-E-C-A-U-S-E"

I would also accept "cos" ;)

So, let me get this straight, you want to try to have a go at me COZ i used a shortened version of a word, even though you knew exactly what i was trying to say?

Plus, you have a go at my grammar, without using Full Stops at the end of any of your sentences.

And another thing, you can spell, but can you read? If so, try reading the charter about staying on topic.

Next time, why don't you try to leave a helpful comment, like i have tried to do previously.

    Bye!

The topic was free fees and i said that you dont deserve free fees. Problem?

The topic was not whether anyone deserved free fees, but whether or not this year was the last year of free fees.

Again, your reading skills are letting you down.

Should have made the title more relevant to that then.

My reading skills are fine, hence how i got to your post. However, text speak makes me want to gauge eyeballs rather than read.

It also makes you leave pointless posts on internet forums, I used 1 txtspk word in an entire post, get over it.

The title is pretty clear, you should've made your reply more relevant.

And if you say you would accept "cos" but not "coz"....... grow up.
