American Ipod Touch

This may seem like a stupid question, but I am currently in New York right now and thinking of purchasing an 8gig Ipod touch here. Yet before I do, I would just like to make a few inquiries.

Firstly - would there be any connection problems for an American one if I use it back home?

Secondly - the 8gig model here is 219$, which is 156euro. Is this a good price?

I can answer the first question because I bought my iTouch in Boston last summer for $300 8gb aswell. Works absolutely fine connection is exact same. As for the price, seems alright to me but not sure what the going rate is now.

No problems whatsoever - I bought one in the USA. It chargers via a standard USB port.

    Compare prices with www.apple.com/ie - http://store.apple.com/ie/browse/home/shop_ipod/family/ipod_touch?mco=MTE2NTk

Its certainly better value than Ireland right now (though remember that they sock on NY sales tax to the quoted price of 219 dollars)

    Hope that helps!

Excellent - thanks a million, guys. I googled and apparently the New York sales tax is 4% (I'm gonna say 6% as I also read that some counties add on an additional tax), so it would bring it to 232$ - which is 166euro.

8.375% in New York, isn't it?

I'm not entirely sure - I'm going by this.

Actually, according to this, you are right. It's 8.375%. Wasn't sure how much they added on.

So that makes it $237 or 169euro, which is still a lot cheaper than in Ireland.

Sorry to bump, but I'm just wondering something. If I purchase one here and use my brother's PC to transfer some music on to it, are there any issues with when I use my home laptop?

You'll just have to resynch it with your own music and lose his, there's ways around it though. Other than that, there should be no problems.... I think.

while you have the chance i would recommend you get the 16gb or even the 32gb while you can at the lower price, as you will fill 8gb very quickly!

but thats my opinion, 8gb may be more than enough for you.

but to answer your question, it will work perfect without any issues.

you will have no problems with it, its the exact same as what you can buy here except a lot cheaper. would recommend you go with a larger capacity as if you are keeping it for a few years you will thank yourself in future. i bought a 120gig classic ipod for a friend of mine last year in the states and the hard drive failed in it a few weeks ago, brought it back to compub in limerick and they checked the serial number, saw when it had been registered and gave a brand new replacement one out. didnt need original receipt. they are covered by worldwide warranty so if you have a problem with it back home you are covered for a year
