Hair Colour Problem

I recently decided to darken my hair and I've a lovely shade of brown in my hair at the moment. My problem is that I've very greasy hair that requires daily washing, which means that the €60 colour I've gotten done in the hairdressers has faded in 3 weeks. I asked about getting a permanent colour in my hair but the hairdresser advised against it, saying its only suitable for grey hair. Is this true, because I'm sick of forking out €60 every few weeks? Or is the hairdresser lying in order to keep me going back?

It's a bit late now but in future you could try using dry shampoo every second day or so along with using a degreasing shampoo... I know sunsilk did one that made that washed look last longer a while ago but you can probably get other brands too.
Would you consider dyeing your hair yourself? I dye it myself every second time it needs doing and it saves a good bit of money.

I've used both products you mentioned. The Sunsilk shampoo is useless. Dry shampoo would give me 2 or 3 hours with greasy hair, which isnt suitable for a full day in work.

I would home dye it but I havent the foggiest idea where to start. My dyed colour is a mix of 2 dyes. I wouldnt know what ones to use.

Everyone I know except the lads and one girl gets their hair dyed permanetly, I think your hairdresser is having you on. I have greasy hair too, only bright colours like reds fade on me, the rest have always stayed 6-8 weeks even with daily washes.

Yeah, I've always dyed my hair permanently whether in the hairdressers or home dyes.

Thanks for your advice. I was thinking of changing hairdresser anyway and thats confirmed it for me. I found it strange that she continually used semi permanents in my hair, especially when I told her it was washing out. Its an upmarket salon too, I kinda expected a bit more from them than this.

If your colour is fading between salon trips, I recommend using John Frieda's Colour Glaze- works a treat, whether your decide to use permanent dye or not.

I'll give it a try when I get my hair done again. Thanks!

Whatever you do don't use head and shoulders on coloured hair as it strips the colour.

No permanent colour isn't only for grey hair. Semi permanents fade out, permanents grow out.

Also the reason your hair is greasy is because you are washing your hair everyday. When you wash your hair you remove a layer of natural oil (sebum) so your sebacous gland has to make more of it. Sebum protects your scalp as it is anti bacterial, so when you are washing your hair every day you keep removing the sebum, which in turn sends your sebacous gland into overdrive and it produces excess sebum. That's why your hair is greasy.

As hard as it is, try to wash it only every second day. I used to wash my hair everyday but forced myself out of the habit.

You can get all sorts of "colour-saver" shampoos in salons. Ask your stylist about them...I use them all the time and do notice a difference

You learn something new every day. I use this in the gym and was wondering why my colour didn't last when I did it the last time.
    Thanks!
