So went into Peter Marks on Henry street yesterday and asked for a trim. I told her I have been growing my her for two years and just wanted a small cut to tidy it up and get rid of split ends etc.

An hour later and she has absolutely butchered my lovely locks! She wasnt a trainee either but one of their main stylists!

For two years Ive been growing it to look like this,
    mischabarton.jpg

and now it looks like this :(,

I put off getting a trim for months cos I knew this would happen! Its going to take me months now to grow back my hair at the front now she's butchered it in to these 90's Rachel-type layers throwback!

I guess this should be in the ranting and raving section :) But seriously this happens everytime I go for a trim. Can anyone reccomend a decent hairdresser in Dublin? I used to go to Debs in Cowboys and Angels but its just too expensive now so Im having to resort to Peter marks and their discount deals. Any cheap hairdressers in Dublin that can do a decent cut?

You could try Brown Sugar, it's definetly not cheap, but you could try the trainee classes in the evenings. You should call in have a chat with the stylists.

If you don't mind going to the Northside, go to the Style Club in The Pavilions Shopping Centre in Swords. It's by far the best place I've been to...they really know what they're doing. If you don't know what you want, they have a style book so you can just pick the haircut you want out of it... It's not that expensive either.

If a trip out to Tallaght is not too much for you then I would recommend Khaki. They're bloody good and quite reasonable too...salon is lovey aswell.

I HATE Peter Marks, they never do what you ask them. First time I got highlights when I was 16 they put in way too many and cut my hair very short (almost a bob) and it looked awful cos I have quite curly hair so it was all over the place when I washed it myself. Sometimes I think hairdressers don't take into account that YOU'RE going to have to maintain/recreate that style yourself. Peter Marks are ok for a blow dry, but even then they tend to over-volumise.

I'm not from Dublin but I've been to Lunatic Fringe on Grafton St., they were very good- in fact I might go to them again some time. My mother has gone to Blow on Leeson st., she likes them too. Recently my sister (who could have similar length hair to Mischa Barton in that pic) went to the students in Robert Chambers (same chain as Lunatic Fringe I think) on Liffey St. (just between Abbey st. & Henry st.) and loved them- great value and a lovely cut. Only thing is that it does take a long time with students, but if you've the time it's worth it!

I know,as I said in my original post, debbie in cowboys and angels is fantastic. She always gave me an excellent cut, highlights and she did extensions for me twice.

I just dont have the money for cowboys and Angels anymore, major bummer! But Im so pissed of with this new cut I think Im just gonna save up and go back to her in future. No more butchering by peter marks!

Peter Marks are notorius for cutting far more than theyre meant to when you ask for "a trim"! Id recommend Cowboys and Angels too...pricey but worth it.

My hair dresser Lisa has recently opened up on her own in Zinc Hairspa (previously called Hairobics) on the South Circular Road. She is really excellent - spent a few years with Anthony Murray in Temple Bar. Her prices are about half what you would pay in a "top" salon in the city centre and she is really good, listens to you and discusses things with you so she knows what you want and you know what you are getting! She's excellent at cutting as well as colouring.

    Her number is 01 4544225.

Again and again, go to naturelle on dorset st. Really cheap, and dont mess up your hair. I have had one horror experience after another in Peter Marks. wouldnt go back if you paid me!

You should have gone around the corner to Lunatic Fringe on Liffey street!!Such a deadly, funky salon not too expensive and they do your hair exactly how you like it...so unintimidating aswell, not like House of Colour or Tony and Guy where they can make people feel so uncomfortable with their up their own fake tanned a**** attitudes!!

All the staff are so friendly AND they have a training academy upstairs if you're a bit strapped...

If your ever out the Clontarf way, there's a really reasonable hairdressers called "The Graduate" near the shops in killester ( you go up towards Doneycarney church).

All the mammies in Clontarf swear by it, and my two sisters are frequent visitors.

Here's there number if you want to enquire about prices - 8317966

I have long wavy hair that doesn't really need much attention, hence why I havn't been up! (I've been gradually using some vouchers I won for a place in town the last year or so...)

Tony Byrne's on the Mobhi Road in Glasnevin is definitely worth a shot too - I go to a guy there called Chris who is really, really good. Spends a lot of time actually consulting with you and does exactly what he says he'll do. Very affordable and superior to Peter Marks (wouldn't go near them again ... overpriced and underwhelming)

Ugh Peter Marks are one of the worst, they butcher and destroy hair.

I highly recommend Brown Sugar, it's the best place in Dublin to get your hair done. They are all amazing!

Well I've found a gem of a hairdresser in Peter Marks. Being going to her for 4 years now. (But I do think she is an exception!)

I got my hair done in Khaki the other day. It's the first time I've ever truly been happy with a colour as they really seemed to know what they were doing.

i go to robert chambers school on grafton street and i get a full head of highlights and a cut and iv never been anything other than delighted with what they've done!
it takes 3 hours for the highlights but its worth it and they are very very careful on cutting aswell. i find trainees are extra careful as they are so afraid you'll yell at them! most of the time tho they only trim the lengths and then the teacher does the layers.
its a bargain most iv ever paid is about 80e!!
    definatly reccommend them!!!!
    :):):)
