Anyone on here use on for poker? I know FTP and PS have mac clients but I am not sure of any others. I would probably only use it the odd time for poker anyway like when I am away on work as I have a desktop for poker.

Any other thoughts on the mac in general?

I saw the title and I was confused. If you don't plan to play much poker then its fine obv. Otherwise don't get a mac

    Why not?

Because loads of poker sites are not mac compatible, although you can use virtual windows or something. But its a bit of hassle really. Macs are nice and all but it doesn't seem practical when they are more expensive than most other laptops(I think) and you plan to run some form of windows on it anyway if you want to play poker

buy a mac it will solve all your problems..if you wanna play on sites other than ps ft and ppp then dont buy a mac unless you wanna put windows on it aswell but that'll use up some/a lot of your hard drive obv

I only use a Mac now. They are far superior to PC's and the Macbook Pro is worth every cent. I have not had any problems at all with a Mac and the fact that you don't have to worry about viruses is a big bonus.

However, it does depend on what you need to do.

Pokerstars and Full Tilt run without any issues at all.

I have played on PPP with the Mac via the flash player and Party Poker - Devilfish also offer this I think and others will follow. It's generally fine but there can sometimes be a little lag. This will of course get better. Also on flash player sites there is limited functionality so in a tournament there may be issues with updates and prizepools not showing.

I have also played via virtual machines on macs. This works very well indeed. But is expensive if you want to do it that way as you will need a full copy of windows as well as the virtual machine software such as parallells or VM.

Another possibility is to use bootcamp to make your macbook dual bootable. That software is included on Mac - however you will still need a copy of windows.

    Hope that helps.

Has anyone tried running poker clients under Wine in Linux?

I play on fulltilt on a macbook - have my hard drive partitioned and play on a few Ipoker skins via windows. I find that the site I'm playing on can dictate what os i use and this can be a pain in the ass sometimes (ie not having access to music etc). I'd only be a recreational player but was wondering if anyone knew of any tracking software ala pokertracker that will run on mac os?

I use a 24ins Mac with Bootcamp ( for windows ) and find it just great. Check out www.compatiblepoker.com/Mac+Online+Poker.cms.htm there you will find all the info you will need.
