    Hi All,

Anybody here using the Dunnes golf trolley that Dunnes had on offer periodically for €129ish in the last year or 2? I got it as an Xmas present 1.5 years ago and am quite happy with it but the battery seems to be dying after 13/14 holes recently even when I charge it correctly. Would be interested to hear if anybody has seen this problem, solved it or managed to get a replacement battery. I can go into Dunnes but am not too optimistic that they'll be able to provide me with info on a part for a fairly minor element of their product range like this.

    Thanks,
    super_freddie.

Thanks for that soundsham, indeed I probably do. My query was and is where can I get a replacement battery considering there is no brand name on the trolley or on the battery?

I got a new battery for my trolley about 4 years ago from my local pro.It is still flying and can get 36 holes out of it no problem.I was told when i had the original battery to always leave it on charge, worst advice ever because i only charge it a couple of days before a full round now and then leave it in the boot and still use it for 9 holes on a wednesday and thursday evening and it is still flying.

I can understand how you would think this, but you are hurting the battery. In an ideal world a battery is either in use or is being charged. Obviously this is not possible but as I said in an ideal world.

Proper battery care would be to charge it as soon as possible after you've finished using it (don't worry its fine to have a coffee and lunch etc, just don't leave it 3-4 days (or 6 weeks if your a society golfer)). Charge it until the charger says its fully charged. You can now disconnect it from the charger, plugging it back in the evening before your next round (or if your out a 5pm the morning would be fine, about 8hr's should be fine for a top up).

People get confused because as IrishToffee says he doesn't treat his battery well and its lasted 4 years. Someone else can treat it perfectly and it will only last 12months. Battery's are volitile things. Two battery's from the same batch, subjected to the same conditions could last vastly different times. But "in theory" & from what i've observed while working with batteries its best to treat them well in order to get the most out of them.

Freddie, you don't need to get a battery of the same brand to replace your current one. Think of your smoke alarm, its fine to replace a duracell battery with an ever ready or energizer etc. What you need to look at is the connection. You can usually just buy a battery of the same size (the battery will have its size marked on it, usually something like 20AH (A battery's capacity is measured in AH)) and take the connection off the old battery and put it on the new one.

    I hope this helps

    Regards
    Ian

Hey Ian i know what you mean but 4 years on and it's going great with a huge tour bag to pull around. My uncle is on his second battery in 2 years and barely gets a round out of it,infact my trolley had to push his golf glider up the steep 17th in Wexford today and did it no probs.I think he is going back to the pro about it.I don't think i am treating my battery badly when it's clearly running great.Maybe i was just kucky with the battery as i always chargd the last one i had but ended up no good for 18 holes.

When i said treating it badly, i mean badly compared to the recommended way by the manufacturers. Also just because something is running great doesn't mean your treating it well. Take a car, it can be running great but if it isn't serviced at regular intervals your treating it badly.

You are too technical lol.How long should a battery last anyway mate? Can you service these batteries because i have one in the loft that has been there for a long time.

How long's a piece of string? There's no real "servicing" so to speak, for high performance batteries there are but not for regular SLA's (Sealed Lead Acid Batteries, the type used in golf batteries). Sometimes you can bring them back by repeated charges and discharges, but you need a good cycling charger.

eeeh more important is how often do you use it

more importantly is the fact the cheap gear has little or no come back stick to powakaddy, hilbilly and golf glidder
otherwise you pay for what u get

    Hi,

I've found a UK website with all sorts of spare parts for those golf trolleys.
They have the batteries as well for good prices.

    link below.

    http://www.powerprogolf.com/

    best of luck

    Hi all,

no need to go to the UK for batteries, I got a replacement battery 2 weeks ago from www.europower.ie, and cheaper than any of the golf shops I looked in...

    Cheers,
    Eddie.

    Eddie,

Thanks for that. Do www.europower.ie deliver? No information on delivery charges on their website, have fired them off an email but maybe you know the answer :)

    super_freddie.

sorry Freddie, I've no idea whether they deliver - I collected mine as it was only a 15-20 minute drive from work.

From eBay-ing experiences, I would expect postage to be ridiculous as the battery is a heavy little thing - but most courier companies should offer a better rate than An Post.

So, it definitely suits if you're in the Dublin area, or have a friend around there...

    Cheers,
    Eddie.

    Hi
Just reading what you said about charging your battery as i have been doing a similar thing with mine (2 batteries lasting 6 years) When i finish a game of golf i put it on charge as soon as i get home, and switch it off next morning when it fully charged.I next switch it on the night before my next game, and just keep repeating that process.I hear of a lot of people who,s batteries are losing power after 12 months because they keep them on constant charge.
    Cheers Ken ;)

I have a 24ah 12volt sealed battery, but its only lasting 14holes now.
Does anyone know, if I can replace it with a 35ah 12volt maintenance free (non sealed calcium Batt) ? ? ?
Or will it fry the guts out of my golf glider ?
    Cheers. . .

It'll work but its not a good idea at all! Non sealed means there is liquid acid in there, which if it spills will kill any ground it comes in contact, your course wont be happy with that, or if it leaks into the car it will quite litterally burn through the floor of your car!

Buy a Sealed Lead Acid battery (SLA), it'll set you back 100euro or so. Also you'll need a different charger for your calcium battery so you cant use your Golf Glider charger.

Thank's for the quick reply, that solves my problem.... it's off to the SLA shop for me.

I'm in the very same situation with regards to Dunnes stores trolley. Just wondering what you did. I noticed one reply to you suggested getting a different battery and change connections but where would you get new connections??

What type of connections are on it? Is it the "standard" red and black connectors? If so there readily available, if there a different kind then it maybe a little harder.

Thanks for reply - yes standard black and red

    Hi,

Might as well chip in here since I started this thread... I went to Europower (www.europower.ie) as recommended by one of the earlier posters and bought an "Aino Micro" 22Ah, 12 V battery. I've stuck to charging "best practice" [as stated in the original Dunnes manual - no manual received with the new battery] and still not getting great performancee... maybe 15 holes. No problems with the terminals etc, just unscrew the nut attached to the terminal to take it off the old battery then tighten up the nut again to fix to the new battery. Not sure if it could be the fault of the actual original charger itself instead of the battery?

Haven't got to play too much golf in the last few months unfortunately so not sure if there is a fast deterioration in battery performance over time but it certainly hasn't started off too well...

Battery cost was €70 approx plus delivery €12.70.

Thanks. Contacted europower but not too impressed with battery performance as told by Super Freddie. Also contacted dunnes but they have no contacts for battery. Will try locally on your advice.
