Do you need to have LC Chemistry for Medicinal Chemistry

I want to put Medicinal Chemistry down on my CAO but I didn't do Chemistry for the Leaving, I did Physics and Biology instead. I was looking at the Trinity Prospectus and it said that you need two science subjects, but it didn't say that you specifically needed chemistry. I know that chemistry is a rock hard subject (I know even from people who did it for the LC) and seen as I didn't do it for the Leaving do I need to do a prep course in the basic chemistry first.

Is there anyone else in this situation????

Medicinal chemistry students are bungled in with Natural Science for the first two years. So if the prospectus doesn't say it's specifically required, then it isn't.

There will usually be a crash chemistry course given before term starts for engineers and scientists who haven't studied it for the leaving certificate, be sure to attend.

I certainly don't think it's the case that because you didn't do leaving cert chemistry you shouldn't do MedChem but I am curious about how you can make that decision without having some experience.

Doing the Medicinal Chemistry course is almost the same as doing the Chemistry course are you sure you know what you're getting yourself in for?

If you think Chemistry is so hard why do you want to do Medchem? I'm sure it's possible alright, it just seems a little odd...

    Don't bother tbh.
Go buy the LC book, and spend the week in the library instead.

    +1.

I'd also recomment Declan Kennedy's Rapid Revision chemistry book, go through some past LC papers over the rest of the summer with that by your side and you should catch up fairly quickly.

Also, if the chemistry becomes too daunting in college you can drop out of med chem and give up the chemistry at the end of 1st/2nd year, and continue into relevent subjects/moderatorships within TR071 (Common Science). There'll likely be someone happy to swap places with you.

I did Med Chem for a year and when I applied you needed Chemistry, a C1, however I'd advise just going Natural Science and then moving into Med Chem in 3rd year.
