Can't decide if I should get an iPhone - Sway me people!

    So here's the deal.

I currently have an LG Renoir, which I purchased in December.

It has basically everything the iPhone has [Full touchscreen, A-GPS, Accelerometer, etc.] but it also has some features the iPhone doesn't have, such as an 8mp camera, a HUGE amount of camera options, as well as shooting fast-motion, normal speed, and slow-motion video up to 120 FPS, a frontal camera, etc.

I've never owned an iPhone or even an iPod touch, but I have used an iPod Touch and if that's anything to go by then the iPhone must be great quality.

I mean the screen quality, and feel of the metal, etc.

I was also astounded at how slim it was.

Up until a few months ago I was one of the iPhone haters because of it's lack of features, like seriously, everything up until the 3G S was horrible, but after reading about the features in the 3G S from March onwards I had a feeling it would change.

So if I am going to buy one it will be the 32GB Black on Prepay for €609, just wondering is it worth it?

Main reason I'd be going for it is the apps of course, which are just unparalleled and will more than likely remain like that for the most of this year.

I also love the addition of the compass, I don't know why people are turning it into a p*sstake - Has anyone else tried to navigate a large city using Google Maps on a phone? It's pretty hard because you don't know what way you're looking!

But anyway, just thought I'd get opinions. :D

    Thanks in advance.

Save up, then buy the iphone when your current phone dies.

That isn't what you want to hear, is it?

No, no it is NOT! :P

Yeah that reminds me though, I forgot to add I have the money, I have around three times the money just lying around looking for something to spend it on. :D

And I doubt this phone will ever die anyway.

Quit frankly you are not ready for the iPhone. Once you release your mouth

from the teet of the mega pixel whore, then and only then will you be ready

to experience the awesome bodacity that is the iPhone.:pac:

Just so you know I had an LG Arena (never again will I get an LG) and it is not fit to even lick the boot heel of the iPhone.

The iPhone's a bit chunkier than the touch isn't it?

Yeah the iPhone is not as slim as the touch nor does it have a metal back lick the touch.:pac:

I love my metal backed original iPhone! I get more use out of this thing than my laptop.

I may upgrade next year as my current model still rocks.

have to say, I was a bit skeptical over the whole iphone thing, I even scoffed and laughed when I saw a friends Iphone....I mean come on look at the size of the thing I said...oooeeer :pac:

Finally gave in and got an iphone just the other month, and have to say its the best gadget I own. I can quite happy go away for a few days and I dont need to take a laptop with me anymore....all emails, calendar, great web browsing. No more need to take an Ipod. I use Orb to stream my movie collection from the popcorn to the iphone whilst away so have movies on demand too :)

You will not be disappointed...... now that is what you wanted wasn't it :D

I suddenly have this strange urge to lick the back of my ipod touch...

Everyone I know who has a iphone loves it. The main complaint I hear is about having to use iTunes.

I never understand that argument. I work in software myself and I've come across real dog-crap software apps (not all my own :D) and iTunes is one of the best there is as far as I'm concerned.

About 4mm thicker and 5mm taller.

No doubt they're not too tech-savvy seeing as iTunes is a great piece of software, probably the best media player.

I'd have no problem with that though. :D

I'm already using it with my 160GB iPod, and it's great.

But the thing is I currently don't have any one, so it's a pretty big gain. :)

And where did you hear you couldn't unlock it?

SirDarren, I can tell you a major reason why you shouldn't buy an iPhone: the insurance cover.

If the phone goes wrong, you'll be without it for a couple of weeks, despite paying €3 a week insurance, and you won't have a replacement iPhone. If you were already an O2 customer you can use your old phone, but if not, you'll have to pay them €35 for a crappy loaner.

For the price of the insurance, they should be able to lend you an iPhone.

at the moment the 3GS cannot be unlocked.....think the dev team are working on it....but because the cpu is different they are not able to jailbreak it yet.....and without the jailbrake its impossible to run ultrasn0w....so with the 3GS your stuck on O2 for now..

Backup there anoble - you say popcorn - popcorn hour right?
Have a popcorn hour and getting iPhone on Friday - how do you manage to stream to the iPhone

Give me details - as many as you can :) - including firewall ports etc.

    hey keith_d99.

Its actually very simple, no need to open any ports. Basically, on your home PC map a drive to your popcorn. On your PC you will also install the Orb software (www.orb.com) - create an account and sign in. Add your network drive pointing to your popcorn as one of your media sources.

Then on the Iphone, add the Orb app - can be found on Itunes store and its free. You can then stream all your movies, music, photos from your Popcorn to your Iphone over wifi, 3g and edge :D

It works brilliantly, only downside is if your going away you will have to leave your PC switched on.

Easy is right - excellent ... another reason to get my hands on the iphone. Pity about have to leave the laptop on at home - If the PCH Team went for an ORB MSP we'd be laughing!

If there are any other PCH/iPhone functionalty, please do share :)

I know yeah...would be great without leaving the pc on....cant think of any other apps to be honest....if you have a TV tuner card on your PC you can also stream live tv to your iphone using orb..
