Giving birth in Northern Ireland

    Quick question chaps,

Residents of Ireland are entitled to give birth in Ireland free of charge. Does this entitlement extend to Northern Ireland (can someone be driven up to give birth North of the border), if they so wish?

If not, does anyone know what the fees would be?

Mods - if you can think of somewhere better to move this to - please feel free!

Daisy Hill is the only maternity hospital I know of that a lot of people from the south go to.
I do not know of anyone that has gone public there though.

    http://www.hospitalsoup.com/listing/49732-daisy-hill-hospital might help.

hi benifa, highly doubt pub patients are allowed from the Sth as there would be a run on the hosp there. I wnt private and it cost about £2000 for the consultant - VHI covered hosp fees. I got back e500 from VHI and claimed tax reliefon the rest so overall only had to pay about e800. Tax relief is lower this year so won't get as much back. Highly recommend it as was scanned at every consultant visit.
