    damn students take months and months to get as good at jaywalking as the natives. We have it down to a fine art, then they come in and hold up traffic as they run screaming across the road in sheer terror. :rolleyes:

    The best thing about Limerick is the decentralisaztion programme.

    Lots of Dubs sold their houses and came down here buying houses for a lot less money than they were used to knowing they have a tidy sum in their back pocket. Now the housing market has crashed and

    Limerick is a really go ahead town sure enough. I lived there and have gone there on business and I feel uncomfortable on the main street. Last time I stayed on O Connell Street I nearly got mugged between the resterant and the Hotel - a short distance.A busker got robbed. This was quite in the open.You dont get in Cork or Galway.

    Lots of places have higher crime rates but given the demographics it shouldnt be so. Maybe there is an acceptence of the situation and the local population need to get wise to it.

    Its like the worst thing about Limerick is the denial that there is a problem.As a City it tolerates it.IT needs a public rejection like a meeting or March up O.Connell Street reclaiming the town and pat the castle etc.

    Interesting...

    During the week, I and another poster made an observational comment about an area in Dublin, based on real incidents that had happened to us. We were told not to be so bigoted and the thread never got past page one.

    But the posts here are a lot worse!

    Of course there are problems, but you have the same gang and drug issues in the likes of Finglas and Tallaght.

    I'll out myself as a Limerick native at this point. I accept that people may not like the place or maybe they had a bad experience there which influences their perception. Fair enough.

    But if you've never been there, then shut your cakeholes.
