The Walking Man

Ever see someone around so much that you just wonder what their story is?

Well, I want to know if anyone knows anything about the 'Walking Man' that I seem to see anytime I'm out driving? He must walk all day long and all over the city. He's mostly near the Folly, Inner Ring Road, Williamstown area, but is liable to crop up anywhere. A clean-shaven man, always dressed in a nice suit. Polite and harmless. I doubt he's homeless or anything...maybe just has a compulsive disorder?

    Just curious...anyone know him?

I know of whom you speak, he has been walking for as long as I can remember. Usually has a smile on his face. Speaking of 'characters' anyone else familair with a woman - quite tall and slim who is in her 50s (?) and wears bright garrish clothing more suitable to a 20 year old?

What a great thread! I pass the suit guy and the brightly dressed woman a fair bit, always wondered what their story is!

There's a tall girl with glasses from the Dunmore Road somewhere, seems to spend the day walking as well :D

I had nicknamed the "walking man" to another guy I normally see most mornings on the way to work coming from dunmore rd to Cork Rd IDA estate (cut across by folly and not ORR). Long white hair lates 50s/ mid 60s. Always wearing jeans (not the best for walking long distance). My guess is he is been told to get loads of exercise, kind looks like he would be a regular in someones pub but now he probably is off alcohol...I'm only guessing. He doesnt look like an exercise nut or anything like that.

Theres a guy I see on my way to work on the Cork Road too. Shaven headed guy who seems to walk for a living. Incidentaly he used to cycle everywhere too. I think his name is Andrew. Is this the same guy?

Didn't realise he was walking 25+ years, fair play to him, he covers a lot of distance in the morning. One of a few oldies who I notice out walking in the morning..

There is a mother and daughter that do the ferrybank-Newrath-Sallypark walk a couple of times every day. Not a day goes by that I dont see them out walking.

Is this the same man whose default facial expression seems to be a smile. Not sure if it's authentic or not mind you. I always say heelo to him when i pass him..cause you know...he's smiling...but sometimes he looks at me in surprise...which makes me think he wasn't smiling at all...

I'm not sure if I'm thinking of the same guy at all but there is a man who's a lecturer in the college who seems to walk every day. I see him on the dunmore road/Ardkeen.
Not sure if he walks to and fro every day as I've never followed him!
Tall, slim, 50's, usually has a shirt or suit jacket on.

Does he have a black coat, often folded over his arm?

There's a fella who's well into his fifties who walks the ORR at six in the morning. Not sure where he starts or finishes but I could finish anywhere between 6:00 and 6:30 and I'd usually pass him on the long stretch down the hill (or up the hill for him) between Witch's Lane and Six Cross Roads.

I think he might have retired this year......He was some legend....I often meet him walking around.

I had him first thing on a frosty Monday morning before and he started telling us how it was freezing cold up in the Comeraghs that morning. This was the winter so he must have been walking up there in the dark....

I think he lives in the Earls Court estate - I've seen him coming out of there a good few times. He seems to walk in all weathers, dressed in black with a walking stick - he's like someone from the 1950s.
