From my limited information after checking out new cars for myself:

It appears to be similar to Fords Ecotek which basically means it is their "green" car, smallest diesel engine with the lowest carbon emissions thereby giving you significantly reduced motor tax.

Full Spec is available here PAGE 48

    It's VW's low emissions technology - stop/start etc.

You'll get savage MPG and low road tax.

what do you mean stop start. a neighbour just bought one. she trades in every three years for the basic passat diesel.is this basically just a 1.9tdi or is something else

It's VW's new Common Rail 2.0Tdi engine with 110bhp (outgoing 1.9Tdi was 105bhp in the Passat). Like the new BMW's, when you come to a stop, take the car out of gear and take your foot off the clutch, the engine stops. When you put the clutch down again, the engine restarts. Saves fuel while you are sitting at traffic lights / in traffic going nowhere.

CO2 emissions of 128g/KM put it in to band B meaning 16% VRT and Road tax of €156 per year. Cheaper than the old model to buy new.

Power delivery from the new engine is much more linear than the 1.9Tdi, but to be honest it doesn't feel a lot different to drive, just quieter.

Delivered one recently to Mullingar and it was a very relaxed cruiser on the M4. Consumption on the on board computer was around 4.6 L/100 km for that journey.

Aye, i brought one up to Cavan last week and it was very comfortable. I drove a 09 2.0TDi A4 back, and the difference on the motorway was very minimal. As for fuel, the Passat was streets ahead of the A4 on that journey.

saw that stop/start on the merc sprinter first i think.what about the idea around for years that starting your car used more fuel so leaving it idling in traffic was better
