I booke dthe Apex city hotel there lately going in Oct, got great reviews in Tripadvisor adn is on the grassmarket very central, rooms were very cheap, got a sat adn sunday night for £62 and £42 booked through expedia.co.uk using £20 vouchers for each night, If you want these vouchers pm me,
Got a cheap Ryanairt flight from shannon for 23 euros so very cheap weekend away,
The grassmarket is the main nightlife section as far as i know, bout 5 min walk to castle, and not that far from princess st where all shopping is.

    Enjoy

the thistle hotel or the raddisson on the royal mile.

As regards going out, if you like coppers go to cowgate or the grassmarket. If you dont go to georges street.

Regards going out, that is the best advice going! +1!!!
The Cowgate and Grassmarket are kinda like Temple Bar. Maybe not as rowdy though! George street and Rose street are good fun. Also, if you have time head to this place http://www.undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/edinburgh/pubguide/caferoyalbar.html
It's my favourite bar in the city centre and well worth a pint in.

I'd go for the Belford Hostel. It's a converted church with a bar and pool etc.
It's cheap and right near Princes Street, yet plus some gorgeous streets.

I stayed in the cowgate hostel on cowgate street during the easter holidays, was pretty bog standard place but the place was only a tenner a night, so if you are looking to save some money on accommodation i would recommend it. As long as your not a hygiene freak you wont mind staying there. :p

I hope to go to Edinburgh at start of September for my birthday and loved the look of this hotel but it is more expensive (105 english pounds per night) for the dates I want it :(

Think I might go with a Travel Lodge...even though they are drab in comparison.

    Any other ideas?

    Hiya,

Still haven't booked anywhere to stay in Edinburgh, as cant decide where to stay.

Was looking at Travelodge myself, cheap n cheerful!! But does anyone know anything about the St. Giles Apartments?? They don't seen to be too expensive.

When I was last in Edinburgh, I stayed at the Dunstane House - it's on the airport route out of town and a short bus ride (or walk) in.

They have a sister hotel almost directly across the road called the Dunstane City.

If you get a day ticket for the bus (about £2.30) you can get on and off as many buses as you want. Great value.

I stayed in Edinburgh in early May in the Castle Apartments. They were pretty good actually. They are on the Royal Mile and are about 500 yards from Edinburgh castle itself. They are about a 5 min walk from the Grassmarket area itself and about 15 min walk to George st.

I booked them through www.booking.com and got a very good rate. I think it worked out at 90e pp for 2 nights. There was 8 of us staying in 2 apts. Both apts were double rooms.
