Hi, I have a desktop which the hard drive has died on it. It's a Dell system and it says on the genuine sticker it is Windows XP Media Centre. I have bought a new hard drive for reinstalling software but I can only find an old windows XP Home edition re-installation CD from a previous computer I had.

Anyone any idea how I can put Media Centre back on this desktop?!

If the system didn't come with recovery discs only a recovery partition you'll need to either get hold of a Dell OEM Media Centre cd or contact Dell who'll prob sent them out, for a fee of course, if thats too much well then another option is getting a media centre edition license from the likes of Komplett and using that instead, Home ed & Media Centre ed have different license key formats so using a Dell oem home edition wont work

    Thanks for that Yoyo.

I could attempt to connect the damaged hard drive to another computer to see if the recovery partition is still there. Any idea how to transfer a recovery partition to the new hard drive to short cut the reinstall CD requirement??
