New Irons - Which one's? Cobra or.........?

    Hi All,

Thinking seriously about changing my irons soon. I have been using a set of Cobra's with graphite shafts for about 3 years now.

Choice limited now to the following:

    1. Callaway X20 (on offer for €400) with steel shafts.

    2. Mizuno MX100

    3. New Cobra SZ irons (latest model)

    4. Last years Cobra S9 irons

Didn't get to hit any of these as yet but I'm heading towards one of the Cobra's, just can't make up my mind which set? Never had a set of Callaways but they are supposed to be easy to hit game improvement irons (on paper anyway). Much the same story for the Mizuno's but they don't look great in the flesh (got good reviews though).

Appears that the latest Cobra irons are cheaper than the older S9's but not sure that we're comparing like with like!

I'm a high handicapper who plays golf for fun.

Anyone got any feedback on the Cobra's in particular?

    Thanks.

I play the Cobra S9's and am very happy with them.
I haven't tried the newer Cobras but I preferred the S9s to the Taylor Made and Callaway sets I tried at the time.

I had a set of Cobras (CXI), now I have a set of Mizunoz (MX-23), two different irons I know but I'd never go back.. Nothing feels like a mizuno!!

    Is that enough advertising?

Interesting - I had a set of Mizuno irons with steel shafts before the Cobras. I did like those clubs.

To be fair its like comparing chalk and cheese.. The cobras were cast iron and had an offset.. The mizunos are forged and are flush with the neck. Even a weekend golfer will notice the difference in strike between a forged and cast iron though. Saying that now I never tried the forged cobra irons which are probably much better than what I was using!

As a fellow high-handicaper I highly recommend the Cobra S9s.
The ball files off the face and its really easy to get the ball airborne.
Off-centre hits still fly - yuo can trust me on this one as most of my hits are off-centre :D

Are you buying from Website, Pro shop or Golf superstore?

Its best to try out the different sets first. That said the Cobra S9 are a beautiful club. I havent had the chance to try the SZ yet but I'd imagine they are just an variance of the S9 from last year. It might be worth a trip to the titelist place at Cartron house (I think) and seeing their stock if you are interested in the cobras.

Failing that I'd imagine that your local pro should be able to let you try a few shots with the different brands if he has them in stock and you can make your mind up from there. At the end of the day whether is a set of MD Superstrong Irons for game improvement or a set of Callaways its you that has to be comfortable with them for the next few thousand shots!

Must admit I like the look of the S9's.....Slightly dearer I know but...

I am on my second Cobra driver (first one is illegal now) and I get away with murder so I completely relate to your comments! Even a poor shot still moves forward!

I have just got new Set of Cobra S9's and they are the the Dogs Bo...... Beautiful club, feel and flight is amazing. My local pro recommended them and said they are best game improving club out there and he even went as far to say that the newer Sz are not as good. Just my 2p worth anyway.

    a) I would never buy the latest model of a golf club unless I was truly loaded.
    b) These just look too good to not buy.
