I need to replace the propshaft on my freelander. Anybody know of anybody selling one second hand or know where i can get a good deal on a new one. Been quoted at €2000+

    Thanks,
    Alan

This should probably be in the **wanted** section but my interest is tweaked a little! ;)

That is a wicked price, is it a propshaft or one of the driveshaft/c.v joint assemblies you need?

If it is the prop, how badly damaged is it? I ahve built them up with brass and remeered them out to the correct size after.

Apologies if i've posted in the wrong section, just thought id try here.

    Thanks for the reply Slidey.

I dont know a whole lot about it myself. My regular mechanic said that i need to replace the whole propshaft. I've checked around a few places and they all seem to be giving me the same kinda figures, unfortunately. I've also briefly tried a few uk websites and ebay etc. Any help is appreciated, even more so if i dont have to spend a ridiculous amount of money.

    Hi Alan,

There's a guy I know in Co.down that has a freelander that he is breaking, I can send you his number. He might have one.
Other wise your best bet is to try Traynors or BLRC in Antrim. BLRC specialise in Land rovers.

thanks for the replies. i've had the propshaft taken out completely and im now using her as 2WD. As long as i dont have any problems i'll leave it as it is now, i dont go off-roading and i dont need it for towing so i should be grand. Gil_Dub, thats exactly what i need now. i'll talk to my mechanic early next week and i'll be in touch.

Won't be prop gone, it's the IRD, common problem. Check out any of the UK Land Rover forums and you'll find tons of advice from peope who know what they are talking about. Google the problem as well. Plenty of 2wd freelander out there with shot IRDs, lot less than 2k to fix and diyable as well.
