Just been told that (to keep my job) I have to move to Manchester for about 4 months this Monday

No problem with that at all. More than happy to do it

THing is I've stuff at home to think off. house GF etc etc.

So I was just wondering what I should be expecting back from it. Flights back every 2 weeks? Small raise?

So far all I've been told is that accomidation will be sorted. I'll be back in the office tomorrow and I want a few questions for the boss

Kearns, I presume your working for your own company and not being contracted out?

In my own experience where I was sent abroad to do work for a different company. I could fly home each weekend if I wanted (but only came home pretty much when the contract finished)

If your working for your own company they may view it different, as in your home office location is just being transferred to Manchester rather than you being sent there on assignmennt.

I was in roughly same scenario. I was able to fly home every weekend (was in a hotel mon to fri). Alternatively they would pay to fly someone over to me for the weekend, or pay for my hotel in London or elsewhere if I stayed over for the weekend. Plus on expenses so didn't have to touch my salary really.
It's not so bad if it's short term, but after nearly a year of "commuting" to the UK it had lost it's shine.

You either love it, hate it or just put up with it.

It’s a secondment for at least 4 months (but I've heard that one before!) to the same company but different office.

I'll still be paid through the Irish pay roll

From what I've been told by other lads in the office I'll have flights home every week, accommodation paid for and meals (I assume this is claimed through expenses)

Not sure if you'll be in a hotel or a rented apartment, but if it's a hotel see if they have a loyalty scheme. You might get some free stays that you can use for holidays after the 4 months. Same thing for airline frequent flyer clubs.

Its a company flat I'll be staying in I think and Ryanair more than likely

Also some companies operate a 'per diem' system. This would be a fixed payment given each day to cover food expenses(instead of these been claimed through receipts).
If the rates are good it might be worth going with this

Yep I got these while away and again depending on your company they can be good. OP if i remember correctly your an engineer? so I would say you would get decent money.

In my last company rates depended on country.. but they vary.
US was 70 euro per day so an extra 490 euro per week which at the time worked out ay $700 which was great.

Kosovo was 40 euro which mean I lived like a king :)

Spain was 35 and was fine too.
