I got let go 12 weeks ago like so many people I had worked non stop for over 15 years but these times are so bad, never thought it was coming to this,Anyway to the query , I live in a smallish town and have to collect my payments which are JB and a temprorary Mortgage allowance in the local Post office. The problem I am encountering are the nosiness of 2 of the people who work there, rather than just doing what they should be doing,I get asked all sorts of questions about how I am managing(not very bloody well if I am signing on you dorks!) also get asked for ID every week even though they know full well who I am,and worst of all they insist on calling out in a loud voice the amount I am getting paid, which is really embarrasing, all in all a hateful experience. I was wondering if it is legal or possible to actually change my post office to another town 5 or 6 miles away where the staff may be a little more discreet, also if it is possible is it also possible to get my mortgage allownace changed there too,and how do I go about the procedure. Any help would be appreciated.

When I filled out the forms it asked me to pick the post office I'd like to collect at.

Perhaps you could visit your social welfare office and ask to change post offices because of the indiscreet manner in which you are being treated at your current one. You can also ask for the proper complaints procedure while you're there.

If the Post office is under the same jurisdiction as your current PO (as in people in that area have to go to the same LO as you) then it would be no problem I'd say. It would be an issue if its covered by a different office - ie if you were from Cobh and wanted to collect in Cork city. Go in to the office and ask them to change - it should be no problem.
As for complaining the post office, I don't think you can do that in Social Welfare - the staff in the post office are not Social welfare staff - you would have to contact an post regarding that.

or else you could just tell those two nosey tossers to shut up and mind their own business.

There is no problem in getting your payments transferred to another office but this will have to be set up in your local social welfare office and may take up to 6 weeks to happen.

As for the staff requesting id it states on the bottom of your receipt you may be asked to produce id the staff are only covering themsleves but if you want to complian you have to do so to An Post Heaquarters in Dublin, but may i ash is your card broken or are you using a temporary card ( a yellow docket) well then the computer requires a form of ID.

Also the staff are told to count out the money in a reasonable voice and you check your change before you leave the counter also most people don't even listen to whats happening in front of them as they are just the same as you and want to get out of there as quick as possible and don't care what the person in fromt of them is getting!

Transferring shouldn't be a problem. Aask t your Social Welfare Office. As far as I know it may take a few weeks but it is easily done.

I'd definitely report the two Post Office people though. It's bad enough people can't get jobs in the first place without ass holes getting employment in such jobs.

    Yes,you should report them!
I'd raise my voice and say if it wasn't customers like yourself who has obviously paid your prsi contributions these 2 noseybodys would not have a job. The cheek, you have nothing to be ashamed about, the money you receive is what you have already paid into the system.
