Do you think you could get your bike on the Dart if packed like this?

If it was a suitcase full of clothes of similar size you'd hop on without hesitation.

I ordered a bike bag today and i'll be using it to carry on trains wherever I go as I would normal luggage. Wont be leaving it to rattle about in any cupboards.

My folder (which I never had a problem bringing on a DART) comes with a bag and TBH that image doesn't look any bigger. I'm sure you'll be fine like that.

Someone on the London trains wrapped their bike in brown paper bought in the station shop, thus magically transforming it from a 'bike' to a 'package'. He was then allowed to bring it on board.

Folded bikes are allowed. They prefer them to be packaged.

most of the time you will be stopped at the station, people here have run into the issue several times. Alas getting on/away with it is more the exception....

one of the station masters in maynooth said of you take the wheels off the bike they have no real prob, that would be the comuter trains

The DART doesn't really go far enough anywhere to bother taking a bike on it. I have seen people take bikes on whole onto the commuter Railcars at off-peak times no problem.

Sorry about labouring this, but being able to pack bike on Dart would save me inumerable problems. Found this:

Dogs (with the exception of Guide Dogs) and bicycles are not conveyed on Suburban Rail trains. Prams must be folded. Packed folded bicycles will be conveyed.

on Dart site. I'm wondering if the above would count as packed?

I think so, just watch for any sharp edges.
