Renting a house but rent allowance now reduced?

We have been renting a house for the last 8 months at €153 p.w but now the HSE have introduced a new cap on the max ammount of rent, at €143 p.w. We used get €135 a week in rent allowance but now get €119 a week in rent allowance.

But what now happens if our landlord refuses to reduce the rent to €143 a week? Will we still get rent allowance (even though we're over the €143 cap) Currently we're still paying €153 a week. Of course he should reduce it as rents are falling nationally at an average of approc 16%. Contacted him about it and he will discuss it with us next week but he may not reduce it.

This topic may have been asked somewhere else it's just that after looking I couldn't see it? Thanks

Ivor_Schlong, please read the State Benefits charter for a description of what is acceptable on this forum. As a first tip, that post is not.

Infracted. Next time it'll be a ban.

Anyway, we've had our rent reduced to the new cap of €143....so all's well that ends well I guess.
