okay.... so I 'm travelling to the land of the tour. Having never been to Paris do anyone have any idea where I can find a cool bike shop. I'm looking for a racing bikes and gear.... fixies not required. Perhaps beside the world largest womens clothing shop to keep my mother and my wife (two different people) entertained while Joshua and I look around. He's only 6 months but its important to get him into buying gear early.

I used to live in Paris, I'll ask an old buddy of mine form there, he's a cyclist also.

To be honest if you have never been to Paris before there are better things to take up your time with than a bike shop (IMHO.)

I am not sure what this was, think it may have been art rather than a bike shop :) In the Marais.

Decathlon can be good but to be honest it usually isn't any cheaper than the internet and it generally isn't great for the high-end oogling either. I have been in one near Opera where I bought a saddlebag that doesn't fit my saddles. They have Lance balls though...

Ten mins walk from the Arc de Triompe at Port Maillot end of Avenue Grande Armee there's a well stocked bike shop on right hand (North) side of street.

There is really only one shop for racing in Paris - Cycles Laurent of Place de la Republique. There is also cycles La Gazelle in Boulogne which is good. It isn't far from west Paris, just a couple minutes. Both have websites. http://www.cycleslaurent.com/

There are also various fixie shops popping up around Place de la Republique and Oberkampf. You can also find on the North west corner of Square du Temple going one block towar Republique a great shop with a good assortment of bicycles although none of them are racing bikes. MOre get around the city bikes but a great shop.

Also - There is a massive amount of riders and training in Paris. You just need to know where to go. I ride daily with small pelotons and on weekends with large groups.

    Best..

Thanks for that. Went into Cycles Laurent s it was only 5 minutes walk from my hotel. It was a cool little shop. Lots of cool Jerseys and other clothing, I picked up one of their shop jerseys. There were a few bikes nut not much bling. however around that area, and toward Bastille, I cam across a few fixie shops. Some cool looking bikes around the €1000 mark which I couldn't justify.... there's always next trip.

It would be cool to cycle around Paris it a cool city.... must do a bike trip there one day.

You spelt Ventoux wrong :) The rest seems OK. I sometimes doubt you are French at all, I think it is all an act.

My buddy responded back, he says there's one on Ave. de la Grande Armée near Porte Maillot. Basically between l'Arc du Triumph and the National Conference centre. There's a couple of good Irish pubs up that way also, the James Joyce is just there at Porte Maillot and there's two at opposite sides of the road further up at Pont de Neuilly.
    A+
