Adding internal hard drives - Mac Pro

My Mac Pro has an 500gb internal drive.

I want to add another drive, possibly 1tb, internal.

Can I format it into two drives, one for the back-up of the main drive, the other for various other stuff? Or would I be better just using it purely as a back-up drive (would clone it with Carbon Copy Cloner or something)?

Also, would most things from this page work with Mac Pro - http://www.komplett.ie/k/kl.aspx?bn=10096 ?

    Thanks.

You can use the Disk Utility program which comes with OS X to partition the drive.
Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility

Select the newly installed drive from the list on the left.
Select the "Partition" tab and under the "Volume Sceme:" heading select "2 Partitions" in the drop down list.
You can size the partition volumes by dragging the bar between the two Untitled volumes.
You can enter a name for each of the partitions and chose a format for them.

If you want to be able to boot the partition then its format type will need to be "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)", if it's just for data you don't necessarily need the journaling and can choose "Mac OS Extended (No Journaling)".

Any of the Samsung drives you listed should work fine in your system.

    Most drives will work
if its for a mAc pro and you want to be sure to be sure you may be better with two smaller drives (if money is an issue)

Can use time machine top back up on one and back up carbon copy etc to back up on the other
