I’m heading there on Saturday with two of my Friends (we are all male and in our mid 20’s) and I was wondering has anyone been and could they tell me what it’s like?

The plan was something cheap and cheerful and it’s mostly R&R as the three of us have been really busy with work. I’ve been reading some reviews and everything seems spot on regarding Food, Water sports and Sunshine but the lack of night life has me a little worried. I’m not up for a regular occurrence of staying out till the sun comes up but I hear places close at midnight…?

    Hi Omegared,

We stayed at the Aziza Thalasso last year and we really enjoyed it. I went with my 2yr old and my oh and we went all inclusive. I was so happy when we arrived that we had because the shops/supermarkets really weren't set up for self catering and most of the restaurants are in the centre of Hammamet which were a often crazy taxi drive away from where we were. There are plenty of restaurants but we didn't need to use any of them because the hotel had such good food. Most of the hotels do put on some entertainment but it wasn't great and finished really early. The latest we saw any night life was about 10.30pm most of the night life is based in the hotels - which are more like complexes, a lot of people don't leave them at all. I think you'd be hard pressed to find a nightclub but i do believe there are a few in Hammamet town centre. I also felt uncomfortable walking around during the day outside the hotel on my own, even covered up - a lot of men on street corners with the funny eye thing going on!!

Its the type of place you go to for a rest on the beach (parts of which are usually controlled by the hotel) and a meal in the restaurant, a few beers and not a whole lot else. Bring a good book or 3. We did go to the fortress/market type thing they have but we were basically harrassed the second we got out of the taxi and I think we lasted 15 mins before we went back to the hotel. 3 lads should be fine though, maybe you could try a couple of excersions. Try www.tripadvisor.com to see what others have written about the area and your hotel. Sorry for the long post - oh has said it was one of the best holidays he ever had, he didn't do a scratch for the whole time and wants to book again for this year. Enjoy it, its an experience :D

hey there, spent a week in hammamet last august and had to say it eas one of the best holidays I've ever had. Hammamey itself is quite large, there the older part which has the medina and the newer part is quite far away and this is called Jasmine.

Jasmine seems to have a lot of the newer hotels and clubs and is way more tourist orientated, its clean and well kept and a nice place to hang out, have a few drinks near the quays etc.

I have to say i preferred the older town of Hammamet, it felt a bit more real and having a coffee at sunset outside the medina is gorgeous!
We stayed in between the old town and Jasmine so we went to both places. Its not a place when you can expect fantastic nightlife but there are a few big clubs calypso, oasis, the sinbad that seem to be quite popular and taxi drivers will know where they are.
we didnt end up going clubbing cos we eneded up doing a few tours, we did the sahara tour/matmata/collesseum and that defintely was the highlight for me!
Pubs are grand, we were near the shakespeare english pub which is overrated but they do basic bar food like you'd get at home, toasties and all that and we were glad of it when we got a touch of food poisioning at the end of the trip.
The beach is nice, the weather is usually fab, try out the parasailing its good craic!and enjoy!

How did you get on in Hammamet. Looking around for something for a week in October, just myself and herself both mid 20's. This place certainly seems like one of the cheapest options and the one where you are most likely to get the good weather. Have read some mixed reviews on Trip advisor.

Would you recommend it / where did you stay?
