Tooth Abscess

Just woke up to an awful tooth abscess, entire left hand side of my face is swollen :(

I had one before, and went to the docs who gave me a couple of anti-biotics and it cleared up. Thing is, I start a new job on Saturday and am hopinh that the swelling will have gone by then if I once again visit the docs and get antibots this morning.

Is this likely? I can't remember how long it took last time

the antibiotics are only a temp fix. sometimes the swelling does go down fast so you may be lucky. but you really need to see a dentist to fix the problem.

It's not painful at all, just swollen. Made an appointment with the dentist but that's not until Monday week, 29th June.

I'll go see the doctor so and get anti biotics

Swelling caused by infection in a tooth maybe, if so the antibiotics will reduce the infection but the cause reamins ( a bad tooth or nerve inside a tooth). To fix the problem the cause needs to be treated so a extraction or a root canal treatment. you dentist can advise the best option for you. Good luck.

55 quid in the Docs, another 30 on a prescription, and I'm not even started work yet!

This country's gone to the dogs!

Dont faff paying for a temp fix, get to the dentist and get it sorted. Best not leave these things too long, only will get worse.

Aye, you're right. I hate the dentists though :( irrational fear ever since I was a kid

    I wouldn't say it's an irrational fear:D

But it's usually never as bad as people like to imagine. Just going on a fairly regular basis helps to avoid infections etc. which can limit treatments options to root canal or extraction, the very treatments that people who dislike the dentist are best avoiding.
Hope the job goes well for you, always good to be starting some work in a recession!
