Any Ladbrokes staff here?

    Folks,

Hoping a staff member can help. Can someone tell me if Ladbrokes policy has changed in recent months in relation to bet acceptance on bets over a certain amount. Ladbrokes I have used for years always took my bets regardless of amounts. Using them recently and I get either a 2 minute delay before the bet gets accepted or as happened tonight got knocked back on a 100 e/w on a 7/2 shot.

    Thanks

I know somebody who had a €300 bet refused in Ladbrokes in Rathmines recently.

Perhaps it is because he does not bet there that often and they did'nt know him.

    Poor excuse I know.

Think that Laddys have tightened up considerably on all bets in the last few months for anything over 100, never had a problem with getting decent amounts on horses and dogs but now any bet that I have 100 or over gets referred to HQ straight away.....

Are these early morning prices your betting on or board prices?

I work in an independent Bookies and we have to ring the boss with any liability of over €1000 on an early morning price. Liability on board prices is €2000.

Are you a regular in said shop or was it your first time there? For what it's worth I would have taken that 100 each way no problem:pac:

Worked in an independent bookies for many years, if you weren't a regular I wouldn't have taken the bet either :) That's shocking from a chain like Ladbrokes though.

What the 100 e/w bet as originally mentioned???? If at 7/2 then not worth the title of bookie....

From a stranger walking in off the street, I'd have declined the bet and backed the horse myself :)

Have noticed that Ladbrokes have tightened up also.
Mate has been a punter with them for the last 2 years (losing) now has his EP bets cut back.
For a company that makes so much money, makes you wonder.

If you think a bet might be cut back, just go up to the counter staff and do 1/2 the stake and then 5 or 20 mins later go back to a different staff member (if possible) and do the half of the other bet.
Most staff don't talk to each other and most couldn't remember a bet on a busy day.

:D Ha, Is that what the punters think?

I work for Ladbrokes and all we seem to do nowadays is talk about what some of the customers bet on. We do remember the bigger bets, especially on any early price races. The worst thing any punter can do is believe they are smarter than the bookies.

With regards to the bet that started this whole thread, well everybody has to tighten up in the current climate. I'm sure anyone who would frequent a betting office has noticed how much quieter they are - even compared to 12 months ago. I work in the city cente shops and sometimes there can be fewer than five people inside the shop in the middle of afternoon racing.

Although admittely, I wouldn't have bothered sending over a €100 EW @7/2 bet to HQ but there will be anomalies here and there.

Thought that Laddys were the world biggest bookmaker :)

Know what you mean though ref the Laddys shops being a lot quieter, was in Dublin last Friday trying to back a horse at one of the Irish meetings(usual craic of Laddys/Hills not pricing up until about 12 noon!!!) and the shop that I went in was deserted, used to be a busy shop when I lived up there, whilst hardly ever see anyone in any of the Galway city centre shops....

And I thought the majority of staff seemed more interested in this weeks Heat magazine, keeping in regular contact with their mates through texts and phone calls and getting 5 minutes between races for a quick fag outside the shop!

I dont think anyone here claimed they were smarter than the bookmakers but as long as I have been betting opportunities will present themselves from time to time whereby the punter has an edge on the bookmaker. I posed the original question because I need to know that if such opportunity presents itself can Ladbrokes accomadate a decent sized wager? I appreciate that you are obviously a conscientious worker and a credit to the company but for the most part your colleagues are not. There appears to be huge turnover in shop staff at Ladbrokes. Are you a fresh faced employee or have you been there for years?

In the current climate its up to the bookmakers to know their client. Are all large bets to be knocked back? Why not have a notice on the door saying 'no bet(s) accepted where take out is more than €100' If Ladbrokes are only interested in the €5/€10 singles, 10c lucky 15/63 and cartoon racing brigade then be open and upfront about the policy but spouting nonsense through their p.r. men about taking 5 figure sum bets on sporting events when they wont take a oner e/w says it all!

Some badly located shops have seen a downturn but well located shops will do well even during a downturn. Thats as long as they are willing to take bets!

I know it's human nature to exaggerate but you went a bit OTT there my man. Look, I was quite frankly shocked that your bet was refused and I really can't understand why it was but sh#t happens from time to time.
In my time working for Ladbrokes I have never seen them refuse a bet. If they're slightly unsure about accepting a bet then the terms may be reduced to a extent but the bet is still accepted, eg. a bet for €500 EW @ 16/1 might be modified to €200 EW @ 16/1 with the remaining €300 EW @ SP. But 95% of the time, Ladbrokes will take the big bets no matter what time of day it is which is something Paddy would not do. The only probable reason for a bet being refused is if a customer had already bet on the same horse (or whatever it may be) and tries to be a smartarse by coming back some time later to put a new bet on the same selection.

If you continue to have relatively small bets (ie. €100 EW @ 7/2) referred to HQ then you should probably ask the shop manager (Politely:)) why this is happening when the liability for the bet is minimal.
