Illegal to be taxed on products imported from EU?

We are in the EU and I am planning on buying a camera. I have a feeling I'll be taxed on it. In theory we shouldn't even be taxed on cars that are imported. If I purchase the camera and the delivery service come to my door saying I have to pay import duty then, Can I get around it by not paying?

Can I say that I bought it so it's my property. They are then not giving me my property, no? It is the EU and there is free trade. I paid in euro. I just know that the duty will be ridiculous. The camera would be the same price here. I just can't find it here, that's the problem.

I remember Enda Kenny saying that he was proud to be part of the EU and that there was nothing wrong with some of the campaign posters being printed and bought from the EU. Then the Irish people aren't patriotic when we go to Northern Ireland.

If the camera is shipped from an EU country you will not be charged any import duty/tax.

You won't pay duty but you will pay tax (VAT)

If you order the camera from a European union country, there is no import duty.

As with any purchase in Ireland, you will have to pay VAT, depending on the retailers, they will either charge their local rate or IRISH vat rate.

Some sites are not always where you think they are cdwow.ie is in Hong Kong, and ship from there, Play.com is in Jersey and therefor outside the EU.
