    Ive a garmin nuvi 310 and when i got it first i thought it seemed good but i didnt use it much, however i find it crap now to be honest. i only use it really when going down to Dublin and Mondello and it always brings me the scenic stupid route, it doesnt even have Tallaght on it??? Or any places like Stepaside/Dun laoghaire or lepardstown, why is this, did it lose these places or what. Its useless. Ive got all the stuff in the box that came with it when i bought it, maybe it needs an update, but it must be some update if it doesnt have Tallaght? Its so frustrating when going anywhere, i just use my map.

    Maybe im using the menu wrong but i get 2 options, search by city/postal code or search all, if i select search all i can only type in numbers and not letters for a place, i think it used let me type in letters here, anyone confirm this for me?

    Also, how do i go about updating it?
    Some help would be great :)

    Read the manual.

    The first problem is that Ireland doesn't have a proper postal code system which makes it much harder to search. Sometimes you can find a location through the address search, and sometimes you can find a town in the cities search. If you browse the map rather than doing a search, you can find locations as well.

    Still, it looks like you're not using it properly. Read the manual and find out the map version, and also check in the GPS forum here (in the tech category I think).

    The "manual" I have is useless, basically says to type in something and use the arrows :rolleyes: I was in Tallaght yesterday and it didnt even show on the map when i was there, fookin useless.

    The map data might not be there or might be corrupted. This happened to me and it only showed major roads like the N11. Check the maps version and/or return it.

    imo all those "mapping GPS" things are a load of ****e. and they will continue to be a load of ****e until some good open source maps are released. these yokes are basically disposable

    I have had one of these for a few years and it does the job. No bells and whistles.. just basic oul GPS. I have not bothered being dragged into buying the next best thing... which, being a techie, is unlike me.

    I have updated it each year; don't think I paid for those updates though;) So maybe this is why I am happy enough with it:P

    It could also simply be deselected and will then revert to the basemap which only has major roads on it. Go to Tools > Settings > Map > Map Info and check that the map called CN NT whatever is checked, i.e. there's a little tick in the check box next to the name. If the map name isn't even there, then most likely it's got corrupted or deleted somehow (it isn't unknown for people to delete files on their Garmin's "to make space" and then wonder why it doesn't work any more :).)

    <snip>

    Ill check what map version is on it tomorrow and see how it compares to the version posted above.

    I have removed all references to keygens and so on. No more recommendations like that please.

    I have a Garmin and I hate it. do yourself a favour and get one of the Nokia GPS type phones, they rock.
