There used to be sites where you could send texts online for free without being registered to any network.

Anyone know of any that still do it?

All I could find was freebiesms.ie but the other person has to pay to receive the message so that's no good.

Oceanfree.net now link to veronicasmoco.com to send texts. They require your phone number.

I need to be able to send these anonymously.

There's a number you can put before a text that will let you send it annomiously, great for freaking out people. It's not free though.

Just use someone else's mobile. That's practically anonymous.

Close but no cigar. Besides the 60c charge they can just fill in a form and get the number off that company for a fee.

If someone is thinking of a serious freak out the authorities can easily track the IP address of the PC where it came from.

You can walk into a shop, get a pre pay sim card for free and use its webtexts. You could just put the sim in your phone and send regular texts but then your phone's serial number would be associated with that sim and could be traced if the garda requested it.

Texts sent via my server can't be traced back to your ip either because all the network has is my ip. I'm the only person who gets that info and I don't store any user info so there's nothing for the gardai to request :)

Don't worry, the person I'm texting won't be going to the Gardai. I'm not threatening them, just taunting (there's a legal difference, right?) - and they're the one who broke the law so they can't risk complaining about me as it'll all come out what they've been up to.

So if I send a text via cabbage the person who receives the text has no idea what number it comes from, is that right?
