Happy birthday Igor! My favourite composer by a mile. I suppose I'll have to listen to The Firebird today.

Meh. The only pieces that interest me are The Rite and Pulcinella.

Off the top of my head:
    • Petrushka
    • The Rite of Spring
    • Svadebka/Les Noces
    • Symphony of Psalms
    • Oedipus Rex
    • Symphony in C
    • Symphony in Three Movements
    • Symphonies of Wind Instruments
    • Dumbarton Oaks Concerto
    • Violin Concerto
    • The Soldier's Tale
    • Concerto for Piano and Wind
    • Octet
    • Agon
    All wonderful!

Yeah, I know a lot of people like all that, I just don't know why. Typically, I find he had no sense of melody at all, his harmonies were bland and voice leading generally was not a concern to him at all.

I know those things aren't important to everyone, but they're important to me.

I'm not MAD for him, but Firebird, Rite of Spring and Symphony in C are all important for me personally.

How come people don't seem to care much for The Firebird? I know it's the Rite that gets most of the attention, and the Rite is ****ing animal, but The Firebird is not a bad composition by any means (imho).

Seriously, give Suite 1 a go. Like el pron says it's not the Rite, but neither is anything else. It's short enough too.
