    Hi all,

Have ordered my bike and hope to start cycling around the area with the aim of building up to taking on the commute from celbridge into the City Centre, which I am lead to believe is about 12 miles each way.

Anyone familiar with routes (both for commute or around North Kildare area)? or how long it should take?

    other general advice welcome too!

    thanks

    Risky

I do it some times, works out around 24k for me in to Christchurch area. Route I take is... Celbridge - Lucan (right turn before the bridge) - Lucan Village - N4 at woodies - Palmerstown Village - Bypass to SCR - Thomas street - Christchurch. Takes about 50 minutes at an easy enough pace (no breakfast beforehand).

My commute from celbridge to victoria quay is Celbridge > Lucan Road> turn right to pass by Lucan golf club > Lucan Village> up the hill to Woodies> slip road to Liffey Valley> old Lucan road to Kings hospital school> over foot/cycle bridge to back of shell garage and then Chalpelizod and cycle path all the way to the Quays.
As you can see I try to avoid the busy N4 however the roadworks are almost finished and there's a nice cycle path running alongside it for the length of the Lucan by-pass and I might start using that route, takes me about 40 minutes at the moment.
P.S. My regular spin is Celbridge>Clane>Kilcock>Maynooth>Leixlip>Celbridge. There are quieter roads but I've got used to this route as a regular spin now.

Hi fellow Celbridge dwellers! I wouldn't know anything about commuting routes other than if you're going Blanchardstown/Clonsilla way it's a nice spin from Leixlip station along the canal towpath (although you'd really need a cyclocross or mountain bike).
However, I can show you any number of routes around the country lanes from 0-140kms which is the longest I've done so far in a circuit from home. Let me know - we must host a boards spin out here sometime.
