    Hi,

Would anyone have the name of any companies who rent out and erect anemometers for measuring wind speed? Or have any advice for buying an anemometer ?

    Thanks

Depends what you want it for. If you want to get a mean wind speed over a year for your site, this one on ebay is one I found to work perfectly well for under €100 and stores about a weeks data which you can then upload to your spreadsheet. You can mount it on a guyed pole, but if you are looking at this with a view to wind turbine data, it should be at the same height as your hub will be.

For more precise monitoring, I use a Madgetech pulse counter and this works well, but can only store 9 hours of info if I take a measurement every 2 seconds. You can dedicate a PC to monitoring it 24/7.

If you want more info on that option, pm me.

    Hi,

Quentin has suggested two good methods for measuring wind.

A colleague of mine in a local energy agency pointed out that surveyors for wind farms often measure and report at 30 min intervals.

The WH1080 weather station is the same as the watson but ships from the UK weather store. I used to record wind speeds it holds 4096 records which is 2 weeks at 5 min reporting intervals and 12 weeks at 30 min reporting intervals.
