Is there anyway or anywhere that abusive comment can be reported.

Sorry should have meant PSN comments recieved online.

I'm sure it wasn't bad enough that you have to report the kid, come on it's a game. I'm called all sorts most days I'm on.

I'm sorry but that's bollocks. If someone is abusive because they are losing at whatever game they are playing then why shouldn't they be reported?

And you don't have to be called "all sorts". Reporting it shuts these idiots up. The fact that I've never had hassle on PSN is a testament to Sony's commitment to user experience. It's difficult to find a "nice" game with "nice" people on Xbox Live, something that annoys me to no end.

They obviously don't mean it that's why i don't report them...people just get worked up when they are playing a game and will say anything to let out their frustration. No harm done, if someone calls you a name you don't have to get them warned or banned etc.

We ain't in school anymore, don't have to run to the teacher and report the student .

We're not in school anymore, so we shouldn't be called names. I'd generally ignore (preferably put them on an ignore list) someone being abusive, but would report them if it got out of hand or racist or whatnot.

I've heard some horrible stuff said online, especially on Live and CSS (home of the Pc's best and brightest )

Oh i hate that run and tell teacher attitude grow up lads if you cant take a little bit of bad language then dont go outside .....no wait dont stay inside on your PS3 ...am feck it report them !!!

Ill tell you what happens when you report someone that some one then rather than sending abusing messages just reports you then people start getting banned for doing nothing all over the place. If you dont want to come across idiots then dont go on the internet its bloody full of them.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 23,353 Mod ✭✭✭✭Kiith

There's a difference between a bit of bad language and someone being abusive (racially or otherwise) towards you. I dont mind some friendly banter online, in fact i welcome it. But there's a line that is regularly crossed on some games, and it needs to be addressed.

On psn I'm le noob, which is kinda true (give them a nes with megaman 2 and we'll see who the noob is) but I'm a homosexual jewish black man on XBL. I think its more down to getting the mic in the box tbh

I'm a homosexual jewish black man on XBL.

    You forgot mentally-challenged!

Back to the topic on hand though, I've heard some pretty offensive things said in online games that go beyond just random swearing. If someone is being constantly abusive and actually ruining the enjoyment of a game for other people, then why not report them. I've had too many movies ruined by idiots talking and shouting non-stop in the cinema, don't want that to bleed over into games too. Even the other day I was in the Library reading Oliver Twist when someone shouted over "Oliver Twist, that's lesser Dickens you f*cking noob! Come back when you've read Great Expectations!"

some games are worse than others. home for example can be particulrly bad, (i say this because im a girl!), when i get any type of grief either by message/public chat text/stalking etc on home i report straight away, its very annoying. But i would say i always give fair warning and ask the behaviour to stop. if they continue it after that, then feck them they deserve a ban. In fairness, i have never felt the need to go as far as reporting anyone on any other game.

reporting can be taken to the extreme sometimes though, as an example; A friend of mine was on home recently and fell asleep while online in the bowling alley, he spawned in the seating area after he fell asleep mid-game nd ended up having his ass in some french girls face (back soon ...zzz) for all of her next game, she was going fairly nuts shouting obscenities at him and lo and behold he got a month ban for "stalking" lol. pity she didnt have much english it couldve been avoided

home is a nice way for me to catch up with my online buddies who i dont game online with, mostly because they've moved away from what we used to play and onto typically male games like fifa/ufc etc lol :pac:

so, home for me is more about the people im there with, not the place ;) I do admit tho being drunk makes the place a little more appealing to me :D

1)send a reply if you feel like it

2)add them to your blocked list

3)Grow a thick skin..internet is faceless,so its easy to be rude

doubt it very much sony will do much

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 52,898 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

I prefer to have some fun with them by sending back really polite e-mails about you appreciate the feedback from them especially how they needed to use such profanity to describe how good your skills were. Riles them up something fierce and you can have some fun with them. Then report them.

Will add them to ignore list once I'm online again. Have already sent a level headed reply. I have a reasonably thick skin but just this comment was to totaatlly OTT. Will follow lookingfor's link and report it.

Yes it's a game but I'm not that bothered that it was me this 'message' was sent to it's just the content. Seriously something needed to be done. If it was to a younger person then they'd have really been upset about it. I mean come on it's just a game.

just delete the messages before you read.and grow a thicker skin!!:pac:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,789 ✭✭✭eddhorse

Forward the message to 10 of your friends and you will have good luck for 17 minutes !!!

Seriously, i agree with the cursing etc not being a bad thing, thats normal IMO.
Sending messages is different though, it takes me a long time to send a message so if they are going to bother their arses composing abusive messages then they should be reported.
And if it is some punk then banning them will teach them a lesson.

I think theres a fine line though. Some abuse can be hilarious. I take it with a pinch of salt as when I have a few friends around to play some games there's a lot of name calling and jibes.

I dont understand whats going on in that video other then the connetion lagging and him killing you?

I dont understand whats going on in that video other then the connetion lagging and him killing you?

It's obviously some sort of cheat that the other guy is using. Everytimg he sees him the connection 'goes' and amazingly it comes back on just as he's about to get shot in the head. Now while it could be a real lag issue the fact that it only appears to cause one person an advantage every single time has to point to something sinister.

Whats happening is the Wessley guy has a lag switch, its something you put between your ethernet cable going from the router to the ps3, its just a normal light switch wired up to the certain wires in the ethernet cable.

When he turns off the lightswitch it stops the connection thus making other people in the room getting connection interrupted, then when you turn it back on the connection goes back to normal.

This **** use to happen in halo 2. Stupid american kids use to do it. Though i did glitch the flag through the bottom of the base for fun in gulch (or the map that looks like it) and piss off a load of scots. Sounded like Rab C Nesbit giving me abuse :D

Haven't see it on COD 4 yet but i haven't played it in ages and was playing PC version.

I just report anyone who gives me crap (unjustifiably). I don't really see how it's being unreasonable to report them, and who knows, it might gradually improve lives overall. Certainly won't make them worse.
