Yes & the cills should have been in before the windows , they could drop .

As far as I know they only put in windows, making good &builders work is not done by them

Are you talking about window cills (on the outside) or window boards (on the inside)?

No window company that I know of installs window cills. Any window company that is also a joinery will usually provide window boards but obviously they are priced extra over the windows as they are a seperate item.

I know of some joiner's who used to throw in the window boards with the windows, white deal only. None of them do any more as the pricing of windows and doors has become very competitive.

Its the inside cills, I got windows installed before and the company installed the cills

Also the metal strip on between the glass is in two pieces joined together and not one strip like the windows i got before

The only time I see the window companies supplying window boards (which are the inside cills) is when they are replacing windows to an existing house. Some companies price this work as a finished job to include removal of old windows, fit new ones, make good reveals and fit a pressed window board over old ones.
Otherwise, window boards are carpenters work

vas, i think your query has been answered... window companies generally do not provide window boards or cills... munster joinery certainly do not, not are they ever expected to.

As this thread is more to do with 'associated works to windows' i will allow it to stay open, but if anyone posts referring specifically to munster joinery windows i will lock it. i will change the thread title as well.

that's fine but they could have at least let me know i do not mind having to pay a bit extra for it

the metal strip between the glass is not in one contineous piece can this cause problems in teh long run it looks a bit shoddy to be honest compared to the other windows

    1. if they quoted for windows, then what you get is windows. If you wanted window boards as well, you should have asked them to quote for it. In all respect, honestly, its not their fault you were under the incorrect impression that window boards came as standard with windows.

    2. this is a case of you get what you pay for. MJ windows certainly are at the lower end of the cost scale.

the reason for the metal strip is to hold in the cavity gas, generally, argon, if thats what you requested. Most windows come with this gas in cavity as standard now anyway....

If the seal is broken the gas will escape.... it does anyway over time, but you shouldnt expect it now. Is the seal broken? do you get condensation within the window cavity?

Thanks for that info, yes the metal strip has gaps here and there it does not run continously its joined in places

The metal strip is the spacer bar which keeps the two glass panes separated, typical 16mm. There are two ways to make up the spacer. one is to use four separate lengths which are joined at the corners. The other is to use one continuous piece which is bend at the corners and joined at one place somewhere along one side. This is probable the line the OP is seeing. It does not affect the function in anyway.

If you look closely at the spacer you will see many tiny little holes in it. The spacer is filled with a desiccant which absorbs any moisture that may be present when the unit is manufactured.

The back (outside edge) of the spacer is not flush with the edge of the glass. It is recessed in approx 4-5mm and this space is filled with a sealer which is what actually keeps the gas in (or air out!). You can't see this when the glass is installed in the window.

Here is a good diagram for wiki :

anyway the sales rep offered to have them take out, thank for all the info and advise

MJ used to do window boards but due to the large number of colours, styles, etc they decided to pack it in as everyone wanted a different type, etc
