Ok Im try to plan a trip very Early Jan for 1 week

I was in Kitezbuhel last year and would go back no hassles.

I flew from Dublin - Salzburg and got a taxi to Kitezbuhel worked out very well , What other areas or countries should I look at?

b&b or hotel is ok. Once there is good snow and skiing im happy

    tks

As i have recommended before in other posts, i have to highly recommend Saalbach, we also flew into Salzburg and got a taxi to Saalbach which is about 1 hour away.

Its a huge resort, with a lot of variety in slopes, great town, lots of restaurants, shops and a good nightlife. Its really quite a mix of people there, young, old & familes.

The options are pretty much limitless and you'll get numerous recommendations here which will probably confuse you even more. I posted a link to a book I bought a month ago which I think is a very useful guide - Skiing Europe. Ski Club of GB also have a great site with good resort reviews so I'd say have a browse and go with whatever takes your fancy. All I will say is that when I'm going on a holiday I try to keep the transfer time from airport to resort as short as possible as well as the distance from hotel to lifts (preferably a short walk). Austria is my favourite but others will prefer France, Italy, Andorra, Bulgaria, etc...

Yeah Transfer time is very important all rite, I was in Kitzbuhel which is just over 1 hour in a Taxi from SAlzburg. which was Grand I was in Andorra before which was over 4 hours from the Airport Never again I think 4 hours on a bus did not go down well :(

4 hours would drive me mad:eek:. If I'm on holidays I like to keep stress to a minimum so 2hrs is about as much time as I can comfortably take in a bus/taxi. Do you have a holiday budget in mind? St. Anton followed by Saalbach were the best places I've ever skied in but they were also the most expensive so I'm of the opinion that you get what you pay for. That said, Eastern Europe is supposed to be great value but I've never been there so don't think you can't have a great holiday on a smaller budget.

ah but sometimes 4 hours is worth it. sure livigno is that far from Bergamo airport but it more than makes up for it with tax free status, ie €5 for a litre of smirnoff! also it has 3 parks which are really good and some cool terrain like the hidden mountain bike park in the forest!

+1 for Saalbach, I think we're going to go back 2010.
