    At the end of the dipstick is a dip on indentation, the top of this indentation is the max the bottom is min

    Audi dipsticks for as long as I remember have an indented section as described in reply above. On this indented section, there is a crosshatched/roughened section, the top of which is max and the bottom of it is min

    I don't get the German facination with hard to read dipsticks. The ones VW use are a joke.

    You just described the dipstick on my VW Bora,perfectly easy to read. :rolleyes:

    It's worse on the current Passat as the dipstick itself is black! :rolleyes: :(

    Sure it makes no difference, most people never check their oil anyway :p
    The oil light is there to tell them their engine is about to meltdown;)

    True you need a specail tool to take out a VW Diptstick and the only people who have this are VW garages :D
