I'm just curious - has any Mac user ever managed have a problem-free experience with their software? HP printers, scanners, all-in-ones, any of them I've ever owned has been a nightmare to set up.

I got the HP C4580 as part of Apple's printer rebate with my Macbook. It prints fine but it looks like I'm gonna have to fork out for VueScan since the included software refuses to scan. I had the same problem with an old HP flatbed scanner.

HP make great hardware but I think they have monkeys programming their software.

I can't get OS X drivers for my HP scanner without paying for them. Windows drivers are freely available to download from the HP website, but not Mac ones. I eventually managed to get Image Capture working with it after installing some open source plugins. I'll try find the name of it for you, I've forgotten now. PM me if I forget, which is quite likely since I'm in the middle of exams.

I've the HP C5280 and haven't had any problems. I only print documents through Word and everything else through Preview and scan through Photoshop and it's not given me any grief.

    Yet.
