Rebel SIMs - do they work?

Traveling to Ireland from USA using an AT&T iphone. ATT charge insane rates to roam and use data abroad so considering using one of these rebel SIMs. I also have an 086 O2 pay as you go SIM (just ordered one for the trip) Is it worth the hassle? Anyone any experience with these things?
