hi i have a friend who is a self employed painter and decorator.he is claming the dole the last two months or so, since then he has had no work.now he has been offered to paint a shop its a once off job and should take him just over a week maybe 6 or 7 days.

whats the best thing he can do?

does he have to go off the dole and after the job is finished go back on and join the ever growing waiting list again?

can he just do the work and then declare he worked a few day when he signs on again?

or go to the social welfare office first before he does the work?

any help will be much appricated.

If its a few days work, I think they are happy that people declare it afterwards and you just don't get paid for those days.

If its a weeks work, I'd go in when they are quiet, i.e. not 10am when the doors open and expalin the situation.

They are perfectly happy for people to work, provided they tell them.

If anything, he might be reassessed, I don't think he goes back to square 1.
