Disgraceful correction of an exam

I wont say the lecturer's name, however if you are doing Computing in WIT you will know who I am talking about.

I went into the college yesterday to view my script of Applied Calculus with the intention of preparing myself for the repeat, I was looking to see where I was awarded marks and where I lost marks. I got my script, took a seat and opened the script. I was shocked to see that literally the only thing my lecturer wrote was what I got for Question 1..2.....4 there was no corrections or marks awarded for parts of the question on the inside of the script where my answers were.

I am appalled by this, as I believe you have the right to know where you were given marks/lost marks, and the lecturer must be able to justify why they gave you those marks. It defeats the purpose of viewing a script, especially for those (and there is students) who got 33/34 who are looking for that extra few marks so they won't have to repeat

Had the same problem, appealed (on a number of issues, that included), got turned down. Your fighting a loosing battle there dude. If your lucky, you might be able to arrange a private viewing between the lecturer and the course head - but bring someone with you (Students Union perhaps).

Its a tough subject, big failure rate but you gotta keep at it and work hard. If your lucky it will pay off and you will pass. You can carry the subject each year but I would recommend avoiding that if at all possible. If you need recommendations for grinds in the college, give me a shout and ill pass on some numbers.

I agree, i would not like to be carrying it, but at the same time its a disgrace that the lecturer, in my opinion is just lazy.

40% or even 35% with compensation should be pretty easy to get. You need to know feck all to get a pass. Maybe you ask yourself the obvious question first?

Ya lecturer should prob have wriiten more but still if you can't get 40%

whether I passed or failed the exam was irrelevant, my point is, the manner of which the exam was corrected portrays laziness on the lecturers behalf and is insulting to the student.

The obvious question? That perhaps this is one subject that people find very hard to actually pass? Perhaps the lecturer might be a tough marker? Perhaps the exam paper was unusually hard or very tricky? There are many issues relating to a failure of an exam, this particular subject has a high failure rate amongst all different type of students. Some of the intelligent students who are set to get a 1:1 found this subject tough - well before the OP did it.

Take a break from the forum, your contributions today have been not in the least helpful and look more like a poster trolling to get a reaction out of people. Its great that you are so intelligent that you can pass with ease every subject, fair play to you. Sadly, we are not all like you so have some respect for others.

I checked this paper before, experience the same issues and was equally as shocked as the OP. It defeats the purpose of correcting a paper and viewing a paper. It fails to show where the mark the lecturer got came from. It fails to show the viewer where their downfall was. It fails to help them better prepare their weak area in the subject. Its like clutching a result out of the air for each question.

Not sure where you are coming from i have always checked my exam papers all my lecturers have ever done for the most part is put a tick next to my work along with a mark. Infact the only time i have seen comments is when i have asked to see the work from 100% CA modules. I had one of those theory based modules the stuff in the script i wrote matched what we learned in class ( i believe) however the mark i got did not reflect that because i believe i did not answer academically enough there was no comments on the script only marks on what i got for each section.

Usually as you go through the paper itself there are marking, but in the OPs case there was only a mark summary on the front of the booklet (at least their was in my case). No marks inside the booklet along each question part.

The idea being if its fully marked, usually, is that it shows where marks were given for different parts of the question (inside the booklet) then summarised out front. Allowing the student to double check the tots and see if there was an error (less marks awarded for part of a question then should have been for example). This has been the case in any exam paper I have seen corrected anyway.

I would not expect comments on a paper myself.
